If Injustice 3 needs some guest characters in its roster, then one seemingly random source could provide a few surprisingly solid picks. Granted, the Injustice series has gone seven years without a new installment, and a new game in the series hasn’t been confirmed yet. However, with DC being such a major company, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the series continue. Like many fighting games, a few guest characters could end up getting spots on the roster. As it turns out, Injustice 3 might have a perfect place to pull guest fighters from even well before release.
With the possibility that Mortal Kombat 1‘s support may end sooner than expected, it’s worth anticipating what NetherRealm’s future will hold. One obvious place to look is the Injustice series. Injustice is a series of fighting games starring heroes and villains alike from DC, focused on an alternate timeline where Superman became a tyrant opposed by a resistance led by Bruce Wayne. Considering the team behind it, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the gameplay feels rather similar to Mortal Kombat. With so much time passing since the last game, it may finally be time for NetherRealm to bring Injustice 3 to fruition.

Whether Injustice 3 will be the next NetherRealm Studios release is not yet known, but a recent development in DC Comics should factor into it.
AEW Would Be a Surprisingly Good Choice For a Guest Fighter Representative in Injustice 3
Injustice Games Have Always Featured Guest Characters So Far
Despite only two installments, there have been a few guest characters in Injustice games already. In addition to the expected list of DC characters, the games have also featured:
- Scorpion
- Sub-Zero
- Raiden
- Hellboy
- Leonardo
- Donatello
- Raphael
- Michaelangelo
The Mortal Kombat fighters might not be so surprising, considering NetherRealm’s involvement in the games. However, Dark Horse’s Hellboy and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were more surprising additions. Like most guest characters, the fighters are a fun change of pace, especially for fans of the associated properties. After the last two games, it would be no surprise to see guest characters in Injustice 3 as well.
AEW Has Valid Reason to Be Considered For Injustice 3
One surprisingly valid option for Injustice 3 would be to give an AEW wrestler a video game appearance. As bizarre as the idea sounds, there are a few solid reasons to consider it. AEW and DC are both under the Warner Bros. umbrella, so they already have a connection. In addition, DC put out an AEW comic book that created backstories for several of the company’s wrestlers, which could be played off of in Injustice for both banter and arcade endings. While they would still be out-there picks for NetherRealm, the connections are there, as is the potential to do something fun.
AEW Wrestlers Could Provide Something Unique and Exciting to Injustice 3’s Gameplay
AEW‘s roster could also add some entertaining personality to the game. Similar to the presence that the TMNT brought to Injustice 2, many AEW stars could add their own kind of entertainment to the proceedings. The reckless Jon Moxley or dramatic stylings of Kenny Omega would definitely add an injection of personality. It could also be a chance to create some exciting wrestling-based movesets with a twist. For instance, Darby Allin’s high-risk acrobatics or Orange Cassidy’s switches between lackadaisical and serious invite plenty of opportunities. AEW‘s stars may not have superpowers, but they have more than enough to offer when it comes to fighting games.
Injustice 3 will need to make up for lost time, and a good guest character or two may help. The future of AEW in video games is yet to be written, but a crossover shouldn’t be counted out. With WWE stars appearing in games like Fortnite and Brawlhalla, AEW can’t be counted out in that department. Between their roster’s potential and ties with DC, an Injustice crossover makes sense. If Injustice 3 needs guest characters, AEW may be a good place for NetherRealm to find some inspiration.
