Marvel Rivals Exploit Makes Doctor Strange OP

Marvel Rivals Exploit Makes Doctor Strange OP

Key Takeaways

  • Doctor Strange can start Marvel Rivals with a full ultimate charge by using a pre-match portal trick.
  • The Pentagram of Farallah ability allows Doctor Strange to create portals, aiding in charging his ultimate skill.
  • Doctor Strange isn’t the only hero with an ability fans have deemed overpowered, as Jeff the Land Shark can perform a powerful swallow attack. Still, Strange’s is more problematic due to the exploit and will hopefully be addressed soon.

One Marvel Rivals player has devised a strategy centered around Doctor Strange that can give him an overpowered advantage at the start of almost any match. In short, the Marvel Rivals trick involves Doctor Strange laying down some pretty serious friendly fire as a match is starting, but it lets him start each match with his ultimate skill fully charged.

Although the game has only been out for a few days, Doctor Strange doesn’t initially seem like the biggest offensive threat on the field of battle. Of the 33 different superpowered heroes and villains on the Marvel Rivals character roster at launch, which are spread across three different roles, Doctor Strange is one of just eight vanguards. These characters fill the classic tank role, leaving DPS to the game’s 18 duelists and support abilities to its seven strategists, yet he has one unique ability that lets him start off matches with a ton of extra firepower.

Marvel Rivals and the MCU Could Be Heading for a Symbiotic Relationship

While Marvel Rivals may be an original take on the Marvel universe, it has the chance to bolster the MCU considerably over the next few years.

Doctor Strange possesses the character-exclusive Pentagram of Farallah ability, allowing him to create a portal between two different points on the map, which can be accessed by any character. Twitter user @b0gur has shown off a fun Marvel Rivals trick for players controlling Doctor Strange, using Pentagram of Farallah before a match begins to fully charge his ultimate ability by making the portal’s exit point open up at the edge of a map and having the rest of the team jump through to their doom. The player got the idea after noticing that accidentally killing a team member had charged his ultimate meter, and having the portal kill off his entire team before the match truly begins apparently counts toward that, as his video experiment shows.

Doctor Strange Can Start Marvel Rivals With a Full Ultimate Charge

The hero shooter doesn’t actually award ultimate charge for eliminating players, but one of the ways to gain it is by damaging other characters, so those looking to utilize this strategy should hope their teammates pick characters with hefty health bars. Even if it is incredibly effective in the pre-match strategy, Pentagram of Farallah can be exceptionally powerful when used in more conventional ways. During the game’s closed alpha test this past May, one other Marvel Rivals player used Doctor Strange’s portals to take out five enemies at once using a similar approach, placing one end of a portal behind a closed door and the other falling off the edge of a cliff.

Doctor Strange isn’t the only hero in the game that has an overpowered exploit involving throwing players off the edge of the map. Players have also been complaining about Jeff the Land Shark’s ultimate ability in Marvel Rivals, which allows him to perform a mass, Kirby-style swallow attack against any number of opponents who get too close. Some players have discovered that by performing Jeff’s ultimate attack and then throwing him off the edge of the map, he’ll also immediately take down any opposing heroes currently inside his body.
