There are lots of stats for players to increase in Path of Exile 2 that lead to an incredible amount of freedom in how you make your build. While various classes and builds need to prioritize different stats, there are some that are more universal and should be used on just about every class.
While increasing your overall damage will usually seem like a good idea, that won’t matter if you’re unable to hit your target, and that’s where accuracy comes in. Here’s what accuracy does and how you can use it to hit your enemies and also keep yourself from getting hit.

What Does Accuracy Do In Path of Exile 2
Accuracy determines how likely your basic attacks are to hit an enemy. While accuracy usually applies to ranged weapons, it is also a stat that decides how likely melee weapon hits are at going through to the enemy. The total accuracy of a character and weapon versus the evasion rate of the target will determine if the basic attack actually hits, no matter how the visual effect of the attack looks.
There is a slight accuracy penalty for ranged weapons when attacking far-away enemies, making it even more important to have a high accuracy if you’re playing classes such as the Mercenary. Accuracy can be upgraded through your passive skills, by looking for the following keywords:
- % Increase Accuracy Rating
- Dexterity – This can be upgraded using a Dexterity Support Gem or a +5 to any attribute passive.
Dexterity increases the player’s accuracy by 5 for each point, making that the most important attribute to level up for ranged classes. It’s also important to have a few points in accuracy or dexterity if you’re playing a melee-focused class that uses a lot of basic attacks, such as the Warrior.

How Does Aiming Work In Path of Exile 2
While Accuracy determines if an attack actually goes through, it is not a factor in aiming ranged weapons. Using a ranged weapon will have you firing shots in the direction your character is currently facing, much like blocking. While you are able to free-aim and hit the targets you want, the game also features an auto-lock system that is active when you first start the game.
After facing an enemy you wish to shoot at, stop using the pivot control and just attack with either basic attacks or skills. This will lock onto the nearest enemy you were aiming at and guarantee your attacks hit, then rely on your accuracy stat.
