December 3, 2024, was a big day for Honkai: Star Rail fans, as it was the official release date for the latest Imaginary-Harmony character Sunday. His kit, which offers powerful buffs and action advances, could provide players’ accounts some great value in the long run. Sunday offers a similar playstyle to Harmony units like Bronya, Sparkle, and his sister Robin. However, what makes him stand out is his possible impact upon the release of Amphoreus’ units. As such, his viability in Honkai: Star Rail‘s current meta is a common point of discussion.
As a Harmony character, Sunday’s main role is to support his teammates with abilities that improve their damage and actions per turn. His skills work as follows:
- Basic ATK – Gleaming Admonition: Sunday deals Imaginary DMG up to 110% of his ATK to one opponent.
- Skill – Benison of Paper and Rites: This ability lets one ally (and their summon if they have one) of choice immediately take action, just like Bronya’s Combat Redeployment Skill. It also increases the target’s DMG by as much as 33% for two turns. If they have a summon, their DMG increases by up to 55%. The action advance for this Skill does not work on other Harmony units.
- Ultimate – Ode to Caress and Cicatrix: Sunday’s biggest ability regenerates an ally’s Energy by 20% of the target’s Max Energy. If the designated ally has a summon, then they will receive a CRIT DMG buff of up to 33.6% of Sunday’s CRIT DMG with an additional increase of as much as 12.8%. This lasts a total of three turns.
- Talent and Technique: The Sorrowing Body Talent improves a target ally’s CRIT Rate by up to 22% when Sunday uses his Skill on them. When he uses his Technique, The Glorious Mysteries, he’ll buff a target’s DMG by up to 50% the next time he uses an ability on them.

Here are some of the best units who can make the most use out of Sunday’s entire kit in Honkai: Star Rail.
Sunday is a Versatile Support for Summon Hypercarry Teams
Sunday offers big DMG, CRIT DMG, and CRIT Rate buffs, which makes him a great support for any hypercarry team composition. However, he offers even bigger value when he’s teamed up with summon characters. This is because his Skill further increases a target’s DMG when they have a summon. Currently, three units can take advantage of Sunday’s Skill’s buffs and action advance the most:
- Jing Yuan: While Jing Yuan’s Lightning-Lord deals a ton of damage to all enemies, the biggest complaint among players is that he doesn’t attack often enough in a turn because of his slow base SPD of 60. Sunday’s Skill fixes this by also advancing Lightning-Lord with Jing Yuan immediately, so that he smites enemies down much more often. The summon’s Hit Per Action also increases by two (maximum of 10 HPA) every time Jing Yuan uses his Skill. Letting the general attack more during a cycle improves the ramp-up of Lightning-Lord’s damage significantly.
- Topaz and Numby: Sunday’s Skill ensures that Numby, Topaz’s summon, attacks enemies more frequently every cycle. Topaz also benefits from this action advance, as she can essentially contribute to the follow-up attack counter of allies like Aventurine with her Basic ATK more frequently. Topaz didn’t do well as a solo damage dealer when paired with previous support characters. However, she can carry a team’s damage alone quite decently when she receives buffs and action advances from Sunday’s Skill.
- Lingsha: This Abundance unit turns into a sleeper area of effect (AoE) DPS when paired with Sunday. Her summon, Fuyuan, deals damage to all enemies and heals and cleanses allies during their actions. As such, advancing its turn frequently during a cycle will ensure that Lingsha’s allies are always healthy while also shredding her Fire-weak opponents’ toughness bars. Plus, Sunday’s buffs help Lingsha contribute even more damage for her team using her Skill, which also hits all opponents.
Sunday is one of the most powerful and versatile supports in the current meta of Honkai: Star Rail. His unit and summon buffs and energy regeneration capabilities launched him to the top of the tier lists. However, his real value will be realized even better with the release of summon-specialist Remembrance characters like Aglaea in Version 3.0 and beyond.
