Baldur’s Gate 3 is filled with several interesting characters, and a case can be made for just about every NPC in the game to be made available as a permanent party companion – to no one’s surprise, there are already mods for that. However, one particular character in Baldur’s Gate 3 has remained highly requested among fans to become a companion above any other character, and it’s arguably time for Larian Studios to finally take the hint and make it official. This character is none other than the beloved Tiefling Bard that players can meet in Act One of Baldur’s Gate 3, Alfira.
Players have requested for Larian Studios to make Alfira a permanent companion, seemingly ever since Baldur’s Gate 3 was first released. More recently though, a community mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 that has been gaining a lot of popularity has revived this conversation by delivering the very thing fans have been asking for, although to a limited extent. While this mod provides a huge service to fans that is highly recommended to experience in the meantime, the existence of this mod shouldn’t mean that Larian Studios should shy away from this golden opportunity. Especially considering that Larian Studios could give Alfira the Origin character treatment, making her a permanent companion in Baldur’s Gate 3 would mark a big item off many players’ wishlists.

The Argument for Larian Studios to Make Alfira an Official Companion in Baldur’s Gate 3
The existence of author adriant1978’s mod that makes Alfira a companion in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a sweet treat that fills a void in many players’ hearts, there’s arguably no denying that. However, there are a few natural limitations to this mod and others like it, whereas Larian Studios has the tools and resources to circumvent these limitations. This most notably includes new voice lines, though there are several additional features that Larian Studios could add to make Alfira a proper companion:
- Unique quests, world, and party member interactions
- A personal questline, complete with new game endings
- Romance opportunities with other player characters
- New voice lines, including new songs
- The option to play as Alfira when starting a new playthrough
Not to mention, some players might be reluctant to try Baldur’s Gate 3’s community mods on their early playthroughs or indefinitely, causing them to miss out on this experience that’s currently only available with mods. So despite fan-made mods already experimenting with this feature, Larian Studios should still step up to the task at hand and make Alfira an official, permanent party member in a future update for Baldur’s Gate 3.
New Companions Are a Rich Vein for Future Baldur’s Gate 3 Updates to Tap
The existing companions are one of Baldur’s Gate 3’s biggest strengths due to their combined usefulness in combat and exploration, but more notably, their compelling performances and companion quests. Consequently, adding more companions in future updates for Baldur’s Gate 3 is sure to be a welcome addition to the game if it means more praiseworthy performances that lead to fresh ways of experiencing the game on subsequent playthroughs.
Especially regarding Alfira, making this character an official, permanent companion seems like a win-win opportunity, expanding the roster of companions while simultaneously letting players accompany their journeys with one of the most beloved and famous Bards in Baldur’s Gate 3. So after multiple community mods and several requests from fans, it’s time for Larian Studios to give Alfira the Origin character treatment and make her a proper companion.
