In Caves of Qud, you can travel around the world and bring your items with you. With a limited carrying capacity though, you may often find yourself struggling to decide what to bring and what to sell off to NPCs in the world. These aren’t the only options though; you’ll also be able to store items.

25 Best Roguelikes On The Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo Switch seems tailor-made for roguelikes, and these are the best titles on the console.
Here, we are going to take a look at how you can store items in Caves of Qud. Overall, the process is pretty simple, but if you’ve never taken advantage of storage in the world, you may not know what to do at first.
Where Can You Put Stuff?
You can put stuff in chests and on tables that aren’t already owned by someone else. When you are in settlements or near structures (including ruins), you may find chests around the area. If someone owns the chest or items on a table, then a box will pop-up when you attempt to open or take the items.
If the chest/table is unowned, then you can freely open it and take the items inside. This works in reverse too; you can put any of your held items inside the chest or on a table for storage. At a later point, you’ll then be able to retrieve your items.
Can You Pick Up Chests?
Yes! You can pick up any chest that you come across, but if you don’t want any potential consequences, be sure that it’s not owned by someone. This means that you can pick up chests in dungeons or ruins. Some settlements also have unowned chests that you can pick up.
Chests can be picked up even if there are items within it.
With chests in your inventory, you can place them at a central and safe location to store your goods. This allows you to have a bit of a storage system if you want, with certain chests holding certain item types.
Best Places To Store Items
So, with this in mind, where do you actually store your items? Here at TheGamer, we’ve made a small house in Joppa our ‘storage house’. When in this settlement, you can see two very small huts on the left side of town. We chose the lower one, closest to Argyve’s house. Here, there is a book table that you can place your items on.
Additionally, we picked up a chest in some ruins and plopped it down here. Now, the house has two storage areas for us to use. With the Joppa Recoiler, we can easily return here to stow items.
Any location that has an associated recoiler is a good place to store things. For example, if you get your hands on a Grit Gate Recoiler, you can stow your items here and teleport back if you are ever too far away.
Storing in Grit Gate is a good idea if you like to tinker, as there are people here who trade tinkering-related items.
Overall, we suggest setting up a storage area in either a settlement with plenty of unowned chests, or placing down your own chests in a settlement that you visit a lot.
