Team Up Mission Spin-Off To End Soon

My Hero Academia ended a few months ago, and now the My Hero Academia: Team Up Mission spin-off should also deliver its final chapter soon. Fans have been riding a roller coaster of feelings recently. After the main story ended, a lot of readers were disappointed with how things turned out.

A few days ago, the last volume was published in Japan, and creator Kohei Horikoshi added a new epilogue. The new content made some fans even more disappointed with the story. There might be a lot of exaggeration in people’s reaction to the new information, but it all shows how high some readers held the series, expecting a grand finale that was quite different from the real ending.

Spin-off “Reaching Its Climax”

But for those who have enjoyed stories that expand the series lore and universe, Team Up Mission is another farewell they will soon have to deal with, as the series will reach its climax in the next Saikyo Jump issue, slated for January 4, 2025.

“Climax” is what Japanese manga usually call the final stage of a story. It does not necessarily mean the last chapter itself, but the story will reach its peak and eventually have some follow-up chapters to solve remaining issues. It means the series is ending soon, but not necessarily next month.

Team-Up Mission Creator and Story

Team Up Mission is serialized by Yoco Akiyama, who had previously worked in other My Hero Academia spin-offs, such as the “Everyone Is Someone’s Hero” one-shot (focused on Two Heroes‘ original character Melissa Shield) and My Heroine Academia gag manga. It has been running in Shueisha’s Saikyo Jump magazine since 2019, with over 50 chapters and 7 volumes so far.

The plot explores the Team-Up Missions program, in which different students from several schools collaborate with Hero Offices to keep peace in the cities. In this spin-off, aspiring heroes, including the main characters from the original story, go on several missions, but no one knows who will be teamed up with whom. So heroes, old and new characters could all work together on the same mission.

Even original characters from the movies (including Melissa) make appearances in this story, and it might not be absurd to imagine the final chapters might reference the original manga’s finale.
