Some Splatoon Tracks Have Been Removed from Nintendo Music

Key Takeaways

  • Nintendo Music app removed select Splatoon 2 tracks not meant for release.
  • Not all Splatoon OSTs are on the Nintendo Music app, possible additions in the future.

Some audio tracks from the Splatoon series have been removed from the Nintendo Music app. The move is surprising, especially since the Splatoon songs were added to the app only about a week before being pulled.

While soundtracks always play a large role in gaming, Splatoon‘s songs tend to be more important in-universe than most. Music plays a huge role in the life of the game’s Inklings and Octolings, and a dazzling number of genres and themes have been utilized to create the Splatoon OSTs. However, it seems Nintendo doesn’t want all of these songs to be listened to on the app.

Splatoon 4 seems more and more plausible as Nintendo teases its next console, and if it appears, it needs to reassess a big part of Splatoon.

In an official notice from Nintendo, the company mentioned that select tracks from Splatoon 2 have been made unavailable. According to it, the tracks weren’t “scheduled” to be released, and were only accessible by using the search feature, not by browsing through the game’s playlists. According to dataminer OatmealDome, the tracks include “A Brighter Future Awaits! (Grizzco recruitment video),” “January 2017 trailer,” “Bonus Track (After Octo),” “Splatocalypse (Final Splatfest Trailer),” and “Inkopolis Memorial Mixtape.” These audio tracks were notably included on Japanese soundtrack CD releases, but nowhere else.

The Future of the Splatoon Tracks

It’s not quite clear why Nintendo would choose to remove these songs at this time. Their inclusion on the app seems to indicate that their upload was purposeful, but why the company would feel the need to take them off again is unclear. The wording does seem to suggest that the audio could return at a later date, though if or when that happens is entirely up to Nintendo’s discretion.

With that said, the entirety of the Splatoon soundtrack isn’t available on the Nintendo Music app just yet. The original Wii U game’s soundtrack has yet to be added to the service, as well. Outside of game soundtracks that launched with the app, Nintendo has been adding music in waves. At this time, the app lacks any Wii U-specific soundtracks. While the console did not perform up to Nintendo’s standards, Splatoon was nonetheless popular among its fanbase, so it’s highly likely that it will be added in the future. Fans will likely be curious to see if any songs are excluded from its soundtrack following these recent changes.

Despite the removed Splatoon 2 tracks and Splatoon‘s missing OST, the majority of songs and audio heard in the second and third game are present in the title. However, the live Splatoon performances are notably absent, which were previously released on CD. It’s not clear if these songs will ever be added to the service or if they will remain CD-exclusive.
