Next Week is Going to Be Exciting For Warhammer Fans

Key Takeaways

  • Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is adding a new map, The Forsaken Temple, next week for free on all platforms.
  • The game continues to retain a dedicated player base despite being almost seven years old.
  • Alongside the new map, premium Hero cosmetics inspired by Warhammer Fantasy characters will be added.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 developer Fatshark has confirmed it is adding a brand-new map to the game next week, making it an exciting time for Warhammer fans. Despite being almost seven years old, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 retains a dedicated player base online.

As the sequel to 2015’s Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 had much to live up to. The game was critically acclaimed upon its 2018 launch and has only continued to improve in subsequent updates. The game is frequently compared to Left 4 Dead, with players taking on Skaven hordes instead of Zombies. Still, the core concept of 4-player co-op action remains exactly the same. As a matter of fact, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 even features long-term progression beyond the current mission, which isn’t the case with Left 4 Dead.

A former Xbox console exclusive lands on the PlayStation 5 more than two years following its original release, starting at $39.99.

Detailing the update on Steam, developer Fatshark confirmed that Warhammer: Vermintide 2 will be adding a new map next week (the week beginning December 9). This map is called The Forsaken Temple, which is set to be the first of three missions in the new Verminous Dreams campaign. This update will be completely free across all platforms, coming to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Very little is known about the new Forsaken Temple mission yet, but players won’t have to wait long to find out when it arrives in one of the best co-op games around next week.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is Adding a Free New Map Next Week

Alongside this free update, Fatshark is also adding some new premium Hero cosmetics to Warhammer: Vermintide 2 titled The Mythical Masquerade. According to the post, these cosmetics will be inspired by some of the most iconic characters from the Warhammer Fantasy games. Fatshark has not yet given a date for this update, so fans need to keep an eye out throughout the week if they want to jump straight into the action.

Considering a spiritual successor was released in the form of 2022’s Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, it’s incredibly impressive that Warhammer: Vermintide 2 remains so popular that Fatshark can justify continuing support for the game. These aren’t minor updates, either. Last month, Fatshark released Versus mode for Warhammer: Vermintide 2, bringing an entirely new dynamic to the game. Once complete, the Verminous Dreams missions will form a fresh campaign for players to experience, too. It’s rare to see a game with support like this, especially when the updates are free – it should be celebrated.
