Every Sim dreams of winning a Starlight Accolade award in The Sims 4: Get Famous expansion, but actually doing that has been somewhat shrouded in mystery – getting nominated is tough, and winning is even tougher. Winning a Starlight Accolade means making a speech and having your moment in the spotlight, apparently as long as Judith Ward isn’t in the building.

All Possible Starlight Accolade Awards

There are a few ways for your Sims to earn Starlight Accolade nominations, but the five general categories include Best Acting, Best Song, Best Painting, Best Video, and Best Book.

There are a few other accolades that exist, but only townie Sims can take those crowns. These are Starlight Accolades for “being an all around nice Sim,” a “110 Percent Starlight Accolade” award, and also one for “the outstanding fashion achievement for wearing really tight pants that look REAL good and not constricting at all but we all hope you can still breathe.”

Prep For Success

Give Yourself The Best Chance Possible

There are several ways you can start a Sim off with the best chance for awards. Firstly, you can be careful in the traits you create them with. Confident Sims make the best actors, so traits like Self-Assured will give them some much needed confidence boosts. Other traits like Outgoing give boosts to building the Charisma skill. Other good traits might be Creative, Ambitious, and Hot-Headed (if you want to make a diva).

But other boosts can be found too. If your Sims’ parents are famous, that provides a boost to fame, which can be useful in getting into locations to help get more fame. Being a celebrity is a minigame in itself, and every little bit helps when trying to earn the coveted Starlight Accolade awards.

Improve The Quality Of Your Sim’s Work

Start Down The Path

Generally speaking, the higher the value of a Sim’s work – whether that be a book, video, painting, or even gig acting – the better their chances of being nominated. This goes especially for authors – certain genres or techniques can also give Sims a leg-up, like writers seeming to have a better shot at nominations with Mystery or Science Fiction. Regardless, a masterpiece of any kind dramatically boosts your chances.

Novels must be sold directly to publishers, and paintings to collectors. Actors have the best chance at a nomination by earning Gold on a movie gig, and songwriters should license their songs, no matter what instrument they’re using. Genre doesn’t seem to matter for video producers, but the quality definitely does.

Don’t Miss The Event – Or You’ll Miss The Award

It’s An Honor Just To Be Nominated…

Nominated Sims will receive a notification within a week of the event, so keep an eye on the Notification Bar at the top-right of the UI. If Seasons is installed, Award Ceremonies will also show up on the calendar. If a Sim misses the event, they will have zero chance of winning an award, so make sure you show up – on time!

Until the event, though, feel free to play as you normally would – you don’t have to prepare anything beforehand, unless you want to pop into Create-a-Sim and change their formal wear for the big occasion.

Make The Perfect Venue

The Starlight Accolade Award Ceremonies always happen at Studio PBP in Del Sol Valley. Because this lot has the Hottest Spot in Town lot trait, Sims won’t normally be able to enter unless they’re at least B-List celebrities or, unless they’re in a group with a celebrity who can get them in. Clicking on the velvet ropes (to adjust the entry requirements) works, too.

Renovating the lot is fine, as long as there’s at least one microphone and enough chairs to seat nominees and guests. You can add a new venue if you want the ceremony to take place somewhere else, but make sure that it’s a Lounge venue type with the Hottest Spot in Town lot trait. After a venue change, it might take a few in-game days or weeks for ceremonies to start happening again, but they will eventually start functioning as usual.

Arrive At The Ceremony Early, But Not Too Early

The ceremony technically starts at 7pm, but it’s a good idea to arrive at the venue at least an hour beforehand to make sure your Sims can get into the venue and into place in time for the ceremony. Thankfully, on Award Ceremony days, any nominated Sim will be allowed in, no matter their celebrity status.

If you forget to head over early, you’ll also receive a notification when the event starts. If your Sim arrives too early, though, the Bouncer may make them wait a while before entering the venue (if the Sim isn’t already a B-Lister).

If You Win, Click ‘Accept Speech’ ASAP

Unfortunately, actually winning an award is mostly up to luck – some Simmers win Accolades without trying, while others go weeks earning Gold on acting gigs with no luck at the ceremony. The more high-level celebrity Sims in attendance, the less likely the active Sim is to actually win.

If you see the notification that your Sim has won, though, click on the microphone immediately and select ‘Accept Speech’ as fast as you can! You must do this before the next Sim accepts their award, otherwise, even if your Sim wins, they won’t get the trophy in their inventory. Some Simmers recommend having two microphones in the ceremony area, to make sure you don’t get cut off.

If all else fails, completing a Gold-ranked Celebrity Meet & Greet event will earn your Sim a Starlight Accolade, though it does look ever-so slightly different – the Celebrity Meet & Greet version has a globe in the center instead of two palm trees.

They look basically the same from far away, though, so Sims could always just pretend that they won a legitimate award, even if they didn’t. After all, there’s always time!
