Every time you level up in Path of Exile 2; you’ll earn a Passive Skill point that can be put in an ever-expanding skill tree to strengthen various stats of your character. While skill gems are used to unlock new skills and level them up, passive skills will be the foundation for your build along with the support gems you also use.
While just about any passive skill is useful in some way, focusing on the right ones over time will see very different builds even if your weapons and skills are the same. Should you use a few passive skills points you now regret, they can later be refunded to be spent again; here’s how to do it.

You won’t be able to respec right at the beginning of the game but don’t restart if you want to use the same class, because it can be unlocked with only a few hours of playtime depending on if you focus on the main missions. To unlock respecing you’ll need to complete the following quests:
- Reaching Clearfell
- Treacherous Ground
- Secrets In The Dark
- Sorrow Among Stones
- The Mysterious Shade
At the end of The Mysterious Shade, recommended around level 8 with rare items, The Hooded One will be brought back to full strength and will stay in town, now also being the location where you can refund passive skill points.

How To Refund Passive Skill Points In Path of Exile 2
To refund passive skill points and respec, talk to The Hooded One in town and select the option, “Refund Passives”. This will open up your passives skill tree and let you select which passive skills you want to refund, with a gold cost depending on how many you wish you refund. You’re only able to refund the latest passives in the tree, so you’ll have to work backward if you want to refund an earlier skill.
You can refund as many or as few skills as you’d like at once, with
no limitation on when or how often you can refund moving forward
.
Once these points have been refunded, they will be back in the same passive skill tree menu as if you just leveled up, letting you pick whatever skills you want. Each class can use many different weapons, such as the Mercenary’s Crossbow, and switching your passives with a new weapon is recommended since they all come with different skills and play styles.
