In Path of Exile 2, players will juggle HP and Mana to take hits from enemies and use spell skills or spells. Both your HP and Mana are regenerated using separate potions, with Mana also regenerating naturally every second.
When you first start out you’ll only have a few potions for both resources a piece. Refilling your potions will always need to be a priority, and they can also be upgraded to add additional effects, restore more, and even hold more charges. Here’s how to fully use potions to get the most out of them.

How To Refill Potions In Path of Exile 2
In your inventory, you’ll see a health potion and Mana potion equipped. Hovering over either potion will give you:
- How much Life/Mana is restored over how many seconds.
- How many charges it takes to use.
- How many total charges it can hold.
Your potions will fully refill all charges every time you discover a waypoint or checkpoint. Waypoints act as fast-travel locations, which can easily let you go back to town and refill your potions at a Well after you’ve initially discovered the waypoint. Using a Well will fully restore all the charges for both potions, but only the two that are equipped.
You’ll also naturally refill potion charges with every few enemies you defeat. When hovering over your equipped potion in the inventory, you’ll see the maximum number of charges compared to how many charges it takes to use the potion. These individual charges can only be seen in the inventory, and those are what are restored when enemies are defeated, meaning you’ll get a new potion after defeating many monsters.
Equipping a different potion will lose all charges on your equipped potion, and equip the new potion with no charges.

How To Upgrade Potions In Path of Exile 2
To upgrade either your Health or Mana potions, simply find and equip new ones. You can find new potions like you do new gear either from monster drops or buying them from shops in a town. You’ll find new potions as often as you do other gear types, though you’ll only ever need to equip your best one. As you progress through the game you’ll start to find vials that have higher total charges, and those will be the ones that allow for more healing potions as long as the cost for each charge stays low.
