Ignoring how long it took Peter Griffin to become a reality in Fortnite, one of the longest-running rumours was that Epic was working on a first-person mode for Fortnite. While many took that to mean a toggle for the normal Battle Royale mode, it looks like it’s a separate entity altogether for the time being.
Fortnite Is Finally Getting A First-Person Mode
Out of nowhere, Epic Games just announced a brand-new game mode for Fortnite known as Ballistic, which will be entering early access next week on December 11. The new mode is described as a round-based and “adrenaline-filled” competitive game mode that pits two teams of five against one another for first-person shooting glory.
The early access period for the mode will include one map, known as Skyline 10, and a limited number of weapons and items. More features are planned to release in the future, but it seems Epic wanted to get the jump on the first-person mode and let players experience it right away, which makes sense with how long it’s been rumoured.
Don’t worry, Ballistic is a no-build mode that lets you carry over your outfits, Back Blings, Kicks, Wraps, Sprays, and Emotes. Pickaxes, Contrails and a variety of other items aren’t supported, though.
The official Fortnite blog detailing the mode reveals that players are sorted into teams of attackers and defenders, with attackers aiming to plant a Rift Point device on a part of a map while defenders try to stop that from happening, similarly to Counter-Strike. There are no respawns in Ballistic, with matches taking place over seven rounds.
Alongside confirming how Ballistic works, the official Fortnite blog has a ton of details on the weapons and modes that will be included during the early access launch. If you’re interested, it’s worth reading up on it there, but the good news is that first-person is finally coming to Fortnite after so many years of rumours.
