- Game Pass showcases indie games alongside AAA titles for day-one releases each month.
- Eternal Strands features climbing mechanics and big boss fights, Citizen Sleeper 2 focuses on narrative and character relationships.
Xbox Game Pass subscribers can look forward to playing Eternal Strands and Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector on day one in January 2025. While Microsoft has yet to announce the full January lineup, PC Gamer’s annual PC Gaming Show revealed two titles getting day-one releases on Game Pass for Ultimate and PC subscribers.
The ability to play new titles on release day is one of Game Pass’s biggest perks. While AAA entries like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 may get the most attention when they debut on the subscription service, there are plenty of indie games to enjoy on Game Pass’s impressive lineup of day-one releases, too. Fans now have two more to dive into in the new year.

Day One Xbox Game Pass Game is Leaving on December 31
A day one Xbox Game Pass game is set to leave the subscription service at the end of the month.
The 2024 PC Gaming Show offered a look at new game announcements and updates on previously revealed titles. Two particular standouts are Citizen Sleeper 2 and Eternal Strands, both of which will be available on Game Pass in January. Eternal Stands will come to the platform on January 28, 2025, followed by Citizen Sleeper 2 on January 31. While there are also 13 titles leaving Xbox Game Pass in December, fans at least have these to look forward to, and Xbox hasn’t even revealed the full lineup for next month.
All Confirmed Xbox Game Pass Additions for January 2025
- Carrion, available January 2
- Road 96, available January 7
- Eternal Stands, available January 28
- Sniper Elite: Resistance, available January 30
- Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, available January 31
Eternal Strands will be the first release from Yellow Brick Games, a studio founded by Ubisoft and BioWare veterans. The action-adventure title will take a page out of Breath of the Wild‘s book by making nearly every surface climbable and giving players an in-depth physics engine to emphasize exploration and interaction with the world around them. Early teasers also make it look like Eternal Strands will have Shadow of the Colossus-style boss fights where players get to climb up massive enemies.
Citizen Sleeper 2 is the sequel to a 2022 cyberpunk RPG with a focus on building character relationships and a gripping narrative. The original Citizen Sleeper also got a day-one release on Game Pass, so fans of the series should be excited that the second is getting the same treatment. Anyone who hasn’t played the original can still grab it on Game Pass for now to catch up before the sequel comes out in late January.
The full scope of what other games will come to Game Pass in January and what will leave is still up in the air. But for now, fans can get ready for at least two day-one titles next month.
