For Helldivers 2 players to achieve Super Earth’s goal of spreading managed democracy, they must subdue all who try to go against it. The Automatons and the Terminids are the main threats, constantly the efforts of those trying to achieve their missions. Although they provide engaging and enjoyable gameplay, fighting the same enemy units can eventually feel repetitive, which is why some believe the game should introduce a third faction. The Illuminate from the first Helldivers are seen as the most likely candidates, thanks to extensive leaks suggesting they’re on the way, but bringing back an old foe could still leave people wanting, especially with veterans who have already engaged them previously. It will need some things to help it be a fresh and new experience, and the Automatons have a unit that may be able to help with that.
Helldivers 2 has seemingly teased the eventual return of the Illuminate, such as the appearance of a black hole after the destruction of Meridia and rumors of an unknown faction suddenly appearing on the galactic map. If the faction does make its way into the sequel, it must have a big impact upon arrival as it has been highly anticipated. A good way for it to do so is by having something similar to the Automaton faction’s Factory Strider, a massive unit that’s as deadly as it is big. Should the Illuminate have something similar, there’s no doubt that the faction will stand out right from the get-go.

Why the Illuminate Needs Something Like the Factory Strider Upon Arrival
With the Illuminate still being a no-show, fans are left to speculate about when it will arrive and what it will bring as soon as it does. Arrowhead Game Studios has to ensure that the faction makes a grand entrance, and having a unit similar to the Factory Strider could be a good way to help it do so. As for why it has to be something like the Automatons’ biggest unit, there are a few reasons:
- Introducing something as big and imposing right from the start can help make up for the long wait players had to go through for the faction, as the new unit means they have a worthy unit to take down after months of preparation
- A large and destructive enemy is a good way of showing that the Illuminate is a force that must be taken seriously, defining the faction as a dangerous threat right from the start
- If a unit that big is introduced early, it could mean players have a lot to look forward to from the faction, as it opens up the possibilities for even more dangerous enemy types in the future
Arrowhead Game Studios should highly consider giving the Illuminate something like the Automatons’ Factory Strider as soon as the faction arrives, especially since the benefits show it can help enhance gameplay while giving players more reasons to want to continue playing Helldivers 2.
An Illuminate Unit From the First Helldivers Game Can Match the Factory Strider
If the anticipated Illuminate faction has to stick its landing with a threat as big as a Factory Strider, it has one unit from the previous game that could help with that. If Arrowhead Game Studios decides not to create a large new unit for the faction, it can always bring back the Great Eye. This particular Illuminate enemy type is large, durable, and powerful enough to take on all those who stand against it. It is also similar to the Factory Strider in that its presence means a continuous wave of other units trying to stop players as long as it remains alive. Introducing it as soon as the faction arrives in the game is a good way of displaying the faction’s power, and it leaves the possibility of it being more dangerous than ever, as Arrowhead Game Studios could give it a few improvements over its previous iteration.
If Helldivers 2 has any plans of spilling the beans on the Illuminate faction, then it needs to be in a way that grabs its community’s attention. Introducing it together with a threat as big as Factory Strider is a good way to do so.
