Stalker 2 has finally launched after many years of anticipation from fans of the notably unique (and notably unforgiving) survival FPS game. While it’s been well received by many players, it’s not without its share of faults. Some of these are technical, with creator GSC Game World working steadily to address small and large bugs alike, but some of its issues are related to intended elements of the game’s design. A new mod looks to address the latter category, improving players’ experiences in the Zone by lightening the weight of certain items.
Stalker 2 is a gruelling FPS game whose difficulty stems from struggling to survive in a violent and consistently perilous setting. Overcoming its challenges involves, in part, scavenging for important supplies, such as food, ammunition, and medicine. The only issue with this is that holding onto too many of those supplies increases the player character’s backpack weight, leading them to walk slowly and, in extreme cases, stop in their tracks altogether until a bit of gear’s been tossed away.
The kind of headache that Stalker 2’s weight restrictions cause are part of its general design ethos, but some players might prefer to do away with them regardless. Fortunately, a Nexus Mods user who goes by the handle ‘truditu’ has offered a workaround in the form of a mod called “No (or reduced) weight for ammo, nades, meds, and food.” As the title suggests, the mod allows players to either decrease or remove any weight associated with the above items. With it, users can reduce “all ammo, grenades, meds, and food/drinks” to “0, 10%, or 50%” of their original weight values. They can also change these values for separate categories of “ammo, consumables, and grenades” for further fine-tuning.
