The Scream 7 cast is starting to form, and the latest addition is an actor fans will recognize from Prime Video’s The Boys and Gen V.
Scream 7 initially continued the story of sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter, played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, respectively. However, in the wake of the Israel-Gaza conflict, Barrera shared social media posts supporting Palestine that Spyglass viewed as anti-Semitic. Consequently, Barrera was fired from Scream 7 and Ortega exited shortly after, reportedly due to scheduling conflicts. With its two lead stars gone and director Christopher Landon dropping out not long after, Scream 7 writer Guy Busick had to start from scratch.

The Scream 7 cast will now be led by returning franchise veteran Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, with a few newcomers joining the team. Deadline reports Asa Germann has joined the Scream 7 cast in an undisclosed role. Germann is perhaps best known for his role as Sam Riordan in Prime Video’s The Boys and its spinoff Gen V.
Germann joins the Scream 7 cast alongside Isabel May as Sidney Prescott’s daughter and Celeste O’Connor in an unknown role. As recently as September 2024, Courteney Cox confirmed she hasn’t signed on to reprise her role as Gale Weather for Scream 7, though she reportedly said she “can’t stop now” at the Inc. 5000 Conference in Palm Desert (via The News). Patrick Dempsey is also expected to reprise his Scream 3 role as Detective Mark Kincaid, though his casting has not been confirmed. However, Dempsey revealed there have been conversations about his return for Scream 7 and said he was waiting on the script.
It remains to be seen if any of these returning Scream actors are enough to entice viewers. After Barrera was fired from Scream 7, some fans called on moviegoers to boycott the film, arguing the studio’s decision to drop her was political censorship. Many don’t even agree that Barrera’s posts and comments were anti-Semitic, and the actress herself has denounced anti-semitism. The calls to boycott Scream 7 aren’t nearly as loud as when Barrera was fired, but that could change once production begins and the release date draws closer.
Time will tell if moviegoers revolt against Scream 7 or if Campbell’s return is enough to renew interest in the franchise. Regardless, a new cast is forming, and the Scream franchise is moving forward, controversy or not.
Scream 7 is scheduled to be released in theaters on February 27, 2026.
