Riot Games developers are looking to make some updates to the LoL honor system and chat access: here’s what you need to know.
The new honor system for LoL might come with chat restrictions based on honor level
Riot already brought back an updated version of the old honor system, which allowed you to honor multiple players, including the opponents. To bring more positive behavior in the LoL community, the devs are working on a new system allowing players to have privileges and restrictions, depending on their honor level. Below are the various levels explained:
Honor Levels
Level 1
- No access to All Chat, Champ Select Chat, and Post Game Chat
- No rewards for ranked matches
Level 2
- Champ select and post-game chat enabled
- Still no access to All Chat
- Rewards for ranked matches are still unavailable
Level 3
- All types of chats are enabled
- Additional experience for battle passes
- Rewards for ranked matches are reinstated
Level 4
- All the privileges of Level 3
- Increased experience for battle passes.
- Honor emblem on the loading screen.
- Increased limit of pings and emotes in-game.
Level 5
- All the privileges of Level 4
- Maximum experience for battle passes.
- Honor emblem in the in-game chat.
- Special animation when returning to base.
- Unlock current and past Honor system skins.
The end goal? What do the changes mean?
While the changes are still subject to adjustments, Riot’s plan is clear: they want to reward positive behavior while also heavily punishing toxic and negative attitudes in the game. The chat restriction can be a positive change to reduce those aspects, even though it might affect the outcomes of specific games where multiple players have a low honor level.
Just imagine being in a ranked game where multiple players cannot communicate with one another: in a game where coordination and strategies have a lot of value and influence on the outcome, the implemented changes can create unfairness for one team instead of another.
Nonetheless, the new LoL honor system and chat restrictions are still a positive change, and unless in some minor cases, it should lead to a positive result when fighting toxicity.
