Epic Games has made a big change to the rate at which Fortnite players earn XP, substantially increasing numerous values due to fan backlash that occurred following the release of Chapter 6 Season 1 last week. Fortnite‘s new Japanese-themed season kicked off on December 1 with a plethora of new gameplay updates and content, but fans were quick to blast the studio’s decision to nerf XP rates, resulting in numerous updates from Epic to address the complaint.
After taking fans back to Chapter 2 with a limited-time Remix season, Fortnite kicked off the highly-anticipated Chapter 6 Season 1 at the beginning of the month, introducing new gameplay mechanics, an overhauled Battle Royale island, a plethora of unique cosmetic items, and much more. While fans are loving some of the game’s biggest changes, like the new parkour movement system that allows players to wall-run, Epic found itself in hot water with the Fortnite community after introducing numerous XP changes, which the studio is now attempting to rectify via new in-game updates.

Fortnite Makes Big XP Adjustments
On December 4, Fortnite made numerous changes to XP rewards and bonuses, with Daily Bonus Goal rewards increasing from 60,000 to 75,000 per day. The studio also fixed LEGO Fortnite‘s Quest XP, increasing the reward to 25,000 XP as it was previously only granting players a mere 700 XP. Now, as part of a new in-game adjustment on December 5, Epic has made even more updates to XP in Fortnite. On the official Fortnite Status Twitter account, Epic said it had increased the XP earned for “several common accolades in Battle Royale.” The studio then said it would continue to monitor XP to determine whether any further adjustments are deemed necessary.
Although Epic didn’t reveal which Battle Royal accolades had been adjusted in the new Fortnite update, reliable leaker HYPEX took to Twitter to reveal exactly which changes had been made. According to the leaker, eliminations will now grant 750 XP, up from 250, while surviving a storm circle has seen a massive boost from 250 to 2,000 XP. Numerous other adjustments were also made, such as opening a chest now granting 750 XP instead of 250, as well as opening a rare chest now giving 1,000 XP.
Fans have made it clear over the last week that they want major changes made to Fortnite‘s XP rate, so the latest adjustment will likely be a step in the right direction for many players. Although there has been plenty of controversy surrounding the topic, Chapter 6 has kicked off with a bang, and there’s still plenty more to come. December 6 will see Fortnite OG finally return following its huge success in 2023, and Epic has confirmed that the mode will be a permanent addition to the hit Battle Royale.
