Key Takeaways
- One of the most well-known Marvel Comics memes is a fan-made panel featuring Moon Knight asking Dracula for the money he’s owed.
- Although that interaction never actually happened in the comics, it’s become canon thanks to Marvel Rivals.
- A codex entry found within the game has Moon Knight saying that vampires suck and Dracula owes him money.
Marvel Rivals includes a cheeky reference that canonises a beloved Moon Knight meme where that “goddamn nerd” Dracula owes Marc Spector money. You know the one I mean.
Although Moon Knight has always been a fairly popular character for diehard Marvel fans, it’s fair to say that he was a pretty unknown character for most audiences until he was introduced into the MCU with Oscar Isaac portraying him. Before that, I’m willing to bet that the main thing that everyone knew him for was an iconic fan-made meme.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Could Have Been Marvel Rivals
There’s another timeline where we’re all Harley Quinn and Aquaman mains in an eternal hero shooter battle right now.
The meme in question takes a panel from a 1998 issue of Solo Avengers featuring Moon Knight and changes some fairly generic text into Spector saying, “I know you’re here, Dracula, you big f**king nerd. Where’s my goddamn money?”. That meme skyrocketed after being shared in 2018, and fit Moon Knight’s character so well that a lot of people believed it to be real.
Dracula Actually Owes Moon Knight Money In Marvel Rivals
Although Moon Knight never actually called Dracula a nerd (and actually didn’t have any interactions with him up until that point), the meme became so popular that it’s still become synonymous with the character. Marvel has somehow managed to avoid referencing the fan-made panel in the world of comics up until now, but it’s finally become canon thanks to Marvel Rivals.
As pointed out by Redditor invaderark12 on the TwoBestFriendsPlay subreddit, a codex entry within Marvel Rivals called “The Dusk Of The New Moon” has a pretty obvious nod to the meme. Towards the end of the text, Konshu asks Spector what he knows about vampires, which leads him to say, “That they suck. And that Dracula owes me money.”
While Moon Knight’s reference to Dracula in Marvel Rivals is far tamer than the fan-made meme from 2018, it’s still clearly meant to be a nod towards that iconic panel. Considering how few references have been made to the meme in the years since it debuted, it’s surprising to see it in Rivals of all things, but it does go to show just how much love and attention has been put into the game.
