The puzzle is the last thing you do as part of the Vatican section of the game. You leave the main grounds to progress the story, with the fountain being a major puzzle in your way. First things first, you need to focus on getting it open.

How to open the fountain

Once you get to the fountain, climb up the crates and scaffolding to your left and you’ll spot an arm for the dragon statue on a crate part of the way up. With it in hand, climb to the top and place it on the statue, then rotate it.

Climb across to the one on the other side of the fountain and turn the other arm. A lever will appear at the front of the fountain. Using this lever, we’ll be able to rotate the fountain and reveal the true puzzle inside.

Fountain bowl puzzle solution

Two statues on a fountain puzzle in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

First, push the small statue that’s in the bowl on the left to the right so it’s touching the section jutting out near it. Use your whip to pull the lever above the right statue to fill its bucket with water. Push the right statue to the left so the bucket tips the water into the left statue’s bowl.

The whole fountain will then rotate, showing three statues in front of a gate, with one being moved already. You need to move the second to open the gate. With Gina, move the main fountain lever back to the right to reveal the next puzzle.

Wooden circle fountain puzzle solution

A wooden wheel puzzle in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

The next puzzle you’ll have to deal with is the wooden circle. It’s actually kind of a wooden line, because in order to solve this section, you’ll have to create a clear path for the statue to move from left to right.

You need to move the wooden wheels so that the solid blocks of wood in there either fall to the bottom or stay at the top. Move the wheels so that the wood pieces with slits in them are all going across from left to right.

Whip pull the lever above the stone statue and it will move freely along the path. You will then see a statue on the lower gated side.

Ending the fountain puzzle

The main structure will now rotate automatically so that the gated side is at the front. With the statues moved and the gate now open, push the central statue back into the gate, and some stairs will open into the ground. You can now explore the underworld.
