From deadly expeditions to dangerous traps, Indiana Jones has influenced more video games than you can fit in a museum.

Solving the puzzle means paying attention to worn inscriptions and centuries-old murals, plus exploring cobweb-covered crypts better left undisturbed. This guide will take you from the safety of Antonio’s library to the depths of the catacombs, if you dare.

How To Get The Wine Bottle

The theme of the puzzle is the Sacred Wounds – those suffered by Christ on the cross. As such, to start the challenge you’ll need sacramental wine, which represents blood. This can be gotten from Antonio once you bring him four photographs of the Strange Inscriptions around the Vatican.

You can use the map to find Inscriptions as long as you’re tracking the Secret Of Giants quest.

When you bring four photos to Antonio, place them on his desk and use the magnifying glass to highlight the gold images. Keep going as Indy and Antonio piece together the mystery. After you translate the text on the final inscription, Antonio will give you the wine.

How To Enter The Vatican Sewers

Leave the library and go east toward the Vatican Post Office, where you got the camera. Your destination, the Tower of Nicholas the Fifth, is the round building across the street. There is a captain patrolling in front of the main entrance, who can see through your disguise, so be careful getting into the building.

Once you’re in, go to the sunlit chapel at the rear. Take a picture of the relief on the wall, then pour the wine into the basin in front of the altar. The relief of St. George will push out from the wall, allowing you to rotate it.

Turn the relief 180 degrees so that St. George is above the Dragon, and the wall will recede, allowing you into the catacombs.

Inside The Tunnels

Take the torch just inside the entrance and use the candle on the altar to light it. Before you go down, use the stairs to climb up the tower, jumping to clear the gaps. A lost relic is at the top, waiting to be collected.

Continue downward until you come to a room with torches on the wall to light. Do so, then place your torch in the remaining sconce. This will unlock the door, letting you enter the Sacred Wounds puzzle room.

How To Solve The Sacred Wounds Puzzle

Directly ahead of you is an image of the Crucifixion, with levers located near each of the five wounds. Pour wine into the central basin to activate the levers and start the puzzle. You need to find the correct position for each lever. On either side of the main mechanism are two murals, each with basins in front of them. Pouring wine into each mural’s basin will reveal a Roman numeral. For the left mural, you’ll need to move a fallen bust off of the basin first.

On each mural, a part of Christ’s body is highlighted by a halo; match the Roman numeral to the highlighted hand, foot, or chest, to determine which position the associated lever needs to be in.

There are two more murals in the room to the left, and one in the room to the right. The room to the left can be entered normally, but the door will slam shut behind you. Pick up an iron rod and smash through the wall next to the statue of Longinus to get back to the main room.

The room on the right is closed, but you can squeeze through a crack in the wall to the right of the door, then open it from the other side.

Don’t forget to take pictures of each of the murals as you go for extra Adventure Points.
