Indiana Jones has just as many friends as he does enemies, but who is the archeologist’s best sidekick?

The Fountain hides one of the most intricate puzzles you’ll have encountered up to this point in the game, so it’s understandable if you need a little help. This guide details each step of the challenge so that you can unlock the entrance to the secret monastery.

Where Is The Fountain Of Confession?

The easiest way to get to the Fountain of Confession is to take the west exit from the Belvedere Courtyards, the main plaza in Vatican City. You’ll find yourself near the checkpoint with the troop inspection south of the barracks where you rescued Sidney earlier.

You can’t start the Fountain puzzle until you’ve met Gina and the German zeppelin has arrived in the Vatican, so there’s no need to rush here. You’ll encounter Gina after emerging from the Tomb of the Warrior Giant under the Tower of Nicholas the Fifth.

Go up the hill to the left of the inspection line, taking care to avoid being noticed by the captain. Follow the garden path, and you’ll see the Fountain of Confession looming in front of you. Don’t forget to take a picture of the Fountain itself, plus the inscriptions on either side of it.

How To Turn The Dragons At The Fountain Of Confession

Start by checking the lockbox to the left and taking the Fountain Gate Key inside. This will let you open the door to the left of the Fountain. Before you do, though, check the backs of the truck parked nearby for some extra money; you can use a melee weapon like a hammer to smash the padlocks on the cash box.

Inside the Fountain, use your whip to climb and swing to the window by the roof. This will bring you to the dragon statues on the turrets above the inscriptions.

You need to rotate the statues so that they are facing one another. Start by swinging across to the Dark Dragon Statue. Rotate its outstretched claw to activate a lever which you can use to turn the statue until it’s facing the center of the Fountain.,

Swing back to the Light Dragon Statue; its claw is missing. If you look over the edge of the construction scaffolding, you’ll see the claw below; climb down to pick it up and trigger a cutscene, after which you can climb back up to reattach it.

Once both statues are facing inward, three statues will appear at the center of the Fountain of Confession, letting you begin the next section of the puzzle.

Each new section of sculpture that gets revealed can be photographed for bonus Adventure Points.

How To Solve The Baptism Puzzle At The Fountain Of Confession

Climb back down and help Gina push the lever that emerged from the Fountain all the way to the left. This will reveal a baptism scene that you need to interact with.

Start by pushing the child statue on the left as far to the right as it will go; the child should be lined up with the sconce behind it.

Next, use the whip to pull the chain above the priest statue on the right. This will fill the baptismal vessel with water. Push the priest statue to the left until the water spills onto the child statue.

If done correctly, the mechanism will rotate back to the angel statues, and one will recede, indicating that you’ve made progress. Return to the main lever and push it to the right to start the next puzzle.

How To Solve The Ark Of Bulrushes Puzzle

the ark of bulrushes puzzle in its final position in indiana jones and the great circle.

The Ark of Bulrushes is the hardest of the puzzles in this challenge; while it’s simple in premise, a single mistake can force you to backtrack a lot. No doubt Indy’s had his fill of Arks by this point, too.

The boat starts partially in the puzzle; you need to reset the mechanism by using the whip to pull the left chain before you do anything else.

You can rotate the three wheels by grabbing the stones and moving them, but the planks in the grooves can cause multiple wheels to turn at once. The aim is to get both planks to fall safely into the crevasse at the bottom, while at the same time setting up a clear path across the center from left to right for the boat to travel.

Start by getting one plank into the bottom crevasse and permanently out of the way. From there, get the other plank into the middle groove of the center disk so that it doesn’t overlap with any others, then turn it sideways so that it won’t move while you’re getting the others into position.

Move the middle and outer disks so that they form a “T” shape; once they’re in position, rotate the center disk to drop the plank, then move it to complete the T. If all goes well, you’ll have created a path for the boat.

Once the path is clear, use the whip to pull the right-hand chain and set the boat in motion. If the puzzle is set incorrectly and the boat gets stuck, pull the left chain again to reset it.

If the boat makes it to the right side, the angel statues will return, and the second one will recede. Push the center statue through the iron gate to open the way to the hidden monastery, and the dangers that lie within.
