While in Act One of Path of Exile 2, you’ll be tasked with gathering some spikes and driving them into a tree. From here, this will unlock a new quest called The Mysterious Shade. This interesting quest sends you around a graveyard in order to gather some keys.

Do you want to know which game is better, Path Of Exile or Diablo 4? We have the answer!
In this guide, we are going to take a look at how you can gather the two keys and complete the quest The Mysterious Shade. Overall, this will involve defeating three separate bosses all with similar mechanics. First, let’s take a look at where to go in order to start this quest.
How To Get To The Cemetery Of The Eternals
The first step to this quest is to find the Grim Tangle, which is attached to Grelwood. Once you make it inside the Grim Tangle, talk to Una and she will begin to sing. From here, you can proceed further into the Grim Tangle.
While in Grelwood, you may encounter the Brambleghast boss. This is optional for the quest, but you can defeat it if you want to.
The Grim Tangle connects directly to the Cemetery of the Eternals. This area is not too big, with tombstones, coffins, and mausoleums serving as the main scenery. You can also find the NPC Lachlann here, standing near the waypoint. Thankfully, the waypoint, Lachlann, and the entrance to the Grim Tangle are all next to each other.
How To Search For The Count’s Grave
Before exploring the area, be sure to talk to Lachlann!
At this point, your quest will tell you that you need to search for the Count’s grave past the Memorial Gate. The gate itself is right next to Lachlann, but you won’t be able to enter if you don’t have the two necessary keys.
If you’ve spoken with Lachlann, he will have given you the quest Sorrow Among Stones, which requires you to find the Tomb of the Consort and the Mausoleum. This quest is required in order to complete The Mysterious Shade; defeating both bosses gives you the two keys that you need.
Asinia, The Praetor’s Consort
Asinia is found in the Tomb of the Consort. This area connects to the cemetery, and you will need to explore in order to find the boss arena. There is a checkpoint right at the entrance, and the area is quite large, so you’ll know when you’re there.
Overall, Asinia uses projectiles and AoEs that telegraph on the ground. Additionally, she summons help from Draven from time to time, who does melee damage. After she has been defeated, you can head to Draven in the Mausoleum, or back to Lachlann if you’ve already defeated him.

Draven, The Eternal Praetor
Draven is found in the Mausoleum, which is pretty much exactly the same as the Tomb of the Consort. Look around the area for Draven until you reach his area (which is also the same as Asinia’s).
Draven has more focus on melee attacks, but he will summon Asinia from time to time, who performs her AoE attack on the ground. Once defeated, grab his key and leave through the portal back to the cemetery.

Inside The Memorial Gate
With both keys in hand, speak with Lachlann, who tells you to use the keys to open the gate and free his family. The gate is right next to him, so this is fairly simple. Once inside, you’ll notice that the area is quite small. Lachlann will enter and you’ll watch a short scene before he turns into the final boss for this quest.
Lachlann Of Endless Lament
Now, it’s time to face the final boss of The Mysterious Shade. Lachlann will walk quickly around the area and deal heavy, melee swings. At times, Lachlann will also call out his attacks. For example, when you hear ‘feel the tremble of the ground’, he is about to stomp and cause a tremor that targets you. When the tremor reaches you, ghosts will appear and begin to attack.
Additionally, Lachlann shoots out exploding projectiles that do a lot of damage. The projectiles themselves can be avoided by running/dodging, but once they explode near you, expect a considerable amount of damage.
Another thing that you will need to watch out for is the icy ground. Spots on the ground that appear slightly dull will have a slowing effect. These will eventually disappear, but when they are present, you can expect to move a bit slower than usual.
A simple way to make it through this fight is to just run around the main grave in the center, causing Lachlann to follow you. As you move around, attack him while avoiding any projectiles and icy ground that comes your way.
Of course, slowness is not good in this fight, so we suggest dodge-rolling across the ice if you need to cross over an icy area. Overall, this fight isn’t too difficult; if you made it past both Asinia and Draven, then this should be easier. Personally, we died a few times to Asinia, and none to Lachlann.
How To Complete The Mysterious Shade
After defeating Lachlann, grab the loot that drops and head back to the Clearfell Encampment. Once here, talk to Una and witness the revival of the Hooded One. After talking with him, the quest will be complete!
The Hooded One will now be a permanent fixture in the encampment. By speaking to them, you’ll be able to refund passives with gold and identify gear. This method of refunding passives is quite simple, so if you ever level up and regret the passive you chose, just head back to the Clearfell Encampment and talk to the Hooded One.
