Fortnite OG has finally released, one of the most anticipated updates we’ve had for the game. It has the potential to set a new record for how many people are playing Fortnite right now. So far, it has achieved some major milestones already in its first day,
Last year, the brief one-month return of Fortnite OG set new heights for the game. The total Fortnite player count regularly smashed records, with queues making even getting in a drawn-out affair over weekends. Fortnite OG is now coming as a separate mode, existing alongside the more polished Chapter 6 and everything else in Fortnite. Can we expect to see that record broken again?
It’s a little early, but so far it looks like the number of people playing Fortnite right now is going to get pretty high this weekend.
How Many People Are Playing Fortnite Right Now?
At the outset of the Fortnite OG mode coming back, the game has already achieved huge player numbers. OG alone managed to get over a million players in its opening minutes. Despite launching mid-day for a lot of the world, during a normal work and school day! It’s looking like we’ll see an awful lot of people playing Fortnite OG over the opening weekend.
Usually, Fortnite events take place when a lot of the player base is free. Outside of standard working hours and school hours. While a lot of people likely have work covering the Fortnite live event time, a lot of the player base is able to join all at once. It’s these peak times when the game’s player base normally rises the most. Once we reach these peak times, we could even see OG drive the number of people playing Fortnite to huge levels.
Between this new mode, and Chapter 6, everyone is checking out Fortnite right now. We’ll have to be careful going into the weekend, we could end up with lengthy Fortnite queues once again. The game only recently broke its last record for player numbers, so we’ll have to see if the last event’s high watermark can be beaten in December.
