How Fallout 76’s Vulcan Power Armor Compares to Other Power Armor Sets

Endgame raids are finally back in Fallout 76, with some sweet new rewards for players brave enough to take on the challenges that await in the Gleaming Depths. Among some of the rewards players can earn from completing encounters in Fallout 76’s Gleaming Depths raid is the new Vulkan Power Armor set.

Unlike Fallout 76’s new four-star legendary weapons, the Vulcan Power Armor and its mods aren’t tradeable, so players’ only option to obtain this power Armor set is by completing encounters in the Gleaming Depths raid. Although the new raid is extremely difficult, this new Power Armor is arguably well worth the effort to obtain, considering it has some of the highest stats and a highly useful set bonus.

How Fallout 76’s New Vulcan Power Armor Compares to Other Endgame Power Armor Sets

Vulkan Power Armor’s Damage Resistance Comparison

Power Armor Set: Ballistic Resistance Energy Resistance Radiation Resistance
Vulcan 560 600 200
T-65 565 470 470
Union 485 295 265
Strangler Heart 453 393 500
Hellcat 436 320 320
X-01 400 450 450
Ultracite 455 400 400

The new Vulcan Power has the highest Energy resistance, and the second-highest Ballistic resistance compared to the existing endgame Power Armor sets in Fallout 76. Despite the Vulkan Power Armor’s Radiation resistance seeming much lower than any other Power Armor set, this number can be a bit misleading. All Power Armor sets have a hidden 90% Radiation resistance that isn’t reflected in their stats, so this armor is still fully capable of withstanding extended exploration in nuke zones in Fallout 76.

Vulkan Power Armor’s Set Bonus

The Vulkan Power Armor’s set bonuses are best suited for players who use a Power Armor VATS build in Fallout 76, allowing players to use VATS more frequently and with improved Fusion Core efficiency. While there are several sources of these two separate bonuses that are much easier to obtain than a full set of Vulkan Power Armor, the benefit of this armor’s set bonus is that it can stack with similar buffs for extreme efficiency.

  • +25% AP regen rate
  • +25% Power Armor Fusion Core duration

Vulcan Power Armor’s Unique Armor Mods

The Vulkan Power Armor also uses its own set of armor mods, some of which are exclusive to this armor. Among these three exclusive mods, the Gimbal Bracers mod is arguably a game-changer for players who use shotguns or fully automatic weapons in Fallout 76, especially when equipping this mod on both arms of the Power Armor set.

  • Gimbal Bracers (arm mod): +15% hip-fire and aimed accuracy
  • Ultracite Bracers (arm mod): Melee attacks deal 250 Poison and Radiation damage across 10 seconds
  • Elastic Servos (leg mod): increases jump height by 50%

Is Fallout 76’s Vulcan Power Armor Worth It?

Vulcan Power Armor’s Strengths

  • Highest Ballistic resistance compared to other Power Armor sets
  • Second-highest Energy resistance compared to other Power Armor sets
  • Radiation Resistance is low, but still sufficient
  • Exclusive mods provide unique buffs
  • Set bonuses stack with similar buffs

Vulcan Power Armor’s Weaknesses

  • Armor and mods are rare and difficult to obtain
  • Not tradeable
  • Not compatible with mods from other Power Armor sets
  • Decreased Fusion Core drain set bonus doesn’t apply to Fusion Cores used as ammo

The difference between endgame Power Armor sets in Fallout 76 generally comes down to personal preference, with every set having strengths and weaknesses that make them each suited for a particular playstyle, at least this was the case before the Vulkan Power Armor set was introduced in Fallout 76’s Gleaming Depths update. The Vulcan Power Armor is arguably the new best-in-slot due to its superior damage resistances and stackable set bonuses. While obtaining this armor is no easy task, it’s highly recommended for players who want to take their builds to the next level.
