My Hero Academia saw the release of volume 42 recently, and it is safe to say that it delivered quite a lot of exciting content to the fans. Undoubtedly, the most exciting bit from volume 42 was the epilogue of the story, or, in other words, My Hero Academia chapter 431. For one reason or another, Horikoshi released an extra 38-page epilogue with volume 42, and that only serves to add to the already exciting ending to the series. In many ways, My Hero Academia chapter 431 adds more context to the ending and makes for a better end to the story. Of course, no author can please everyone, which means that there are quite a few individuals in the community that aren’t too fond of the ending, but, it is safe to say that it was a heartwarming chapter, to say the least.

  • Toya Todoroki fought Endeavor and Shoto
  • Toya’s life was barely saved

Toya Todoroki, popularly known as Dabi, was one of the main antagonists in My Hero Academia. Fans know him to have been a member of the League of Villains, which later became the Paranormal Liberation Front. He was the son of Endeavor, the former Number One Hero, and because of that, he suffered quite a lot during his childhood. This was largely down to Endeavor’s obsession with surpassing All Might. Knowing that he couldn’t do it on his own, he wanted the perfect child who could go on to surpass his own legacy and that of All Might as well. Believing Toya to be just that, Endeavor put him through grueling training as a child, where he suffered quite a lot. If that wasn’t enough, he never acknowledged all his efforts to earn the praise of his father. Things got even worse once Shoto was born because Endeavor realized that, now, he had the perfect child. Toya, meanwhile, was completely abandoned, and even though he tried to get the attention of his father in many ways, he never truly succeeded.

In the end, one of his attempts led to his body being completely incinerated, and this is where he was presumed dead. In reality, he survived, and this is when Dr Garaki found him. Eventually, Toya realized that his father and his family didn’t care about him as much as he thought they did, and that is what led to the birth of Dabi.

He served as a major villain in My Hero Academia from this point onwards, aiding the League of Villains in many ways. He revealed his truth in the Meta Liberation War Arc, and eventually, in the Final War, he stood in the path of Endeavor, and then, Shoto Todoroki as well. Unfortunately, in the end, his body was in a state where it couldn’t be healed anymore, and this was especially the case because he pushed himself beyond all limits in the Final War. He even planned to blow himself up, only to be stopped by Rei, and his siblings, including Shoto. Without them, he would most certainly have died, taking a lot of people with him. In the end, his life was spared, but only momentarily. Before My Hero Academia concluded, fans were clearly told that Toya was on borrowed time. He was alive, but sooner rather than later, he would go on to die.

Toya’s Death Is Confirmed In My Hero Academia

Toya Todoroki Died At An Undisclosed Time

In My Hero Academia chapter 431, Toya’s Death is essentially confirmed. 8 years have passed since the conclusion of the Final War, and at this point, all the Hero aspirants from UA have graduated. Most of them have become popular Pro Heroes, and Shoto Todoroki finds himself at the Number Two position on the Hero Billboard. Shoto has had quite an illustrious career as a hero, and his strength continues to grow.

In the epilogue, fans saw Shoto hold a celebratory event for his ascension to the rank of Number 2 Hero in Japan. This is where the entirety of UA’s former class 1A met once again, and fans got to see what each and every member was up to in their day-to-day lives. This was a phenomenal chapter, to say the least, and the way it expanded upon the various characters that fans have come to love dearly over the years was certainly heartwarming. Shoto’s growth was remarkable too. He now has developed new hobbies. In particular, he realized that he loves to eat once he was paying respect at Dabi’s shrine.

Horikoshi is the MHA mangaka. With MHA done, Horikoshi will start a brand new manga.

It appears that Shoto visits Dabi’s Shrine every now and then and, there, pays his respects. During one of these visits, he came to realize that he loves to eat, and because of his love for soba, which he shares with Toya, he wants to enroll in an Ishikawa bowl and chopsticks-making class. Shoto believes that soba in homemade dinnerware would taste even better, and this is his way of paying tribute to his brother, whom he dearly loved.

Here, Horikoshi simply confirms that Toya eventually ended up dying. When exactly he died remains unknown, but this shouldn’t come as a surprise to the fans, because My Hero Academia already had confirmed to the fans that he would go on to die eventually, as his life was already cut short.

How Toya’s Death Affected Shoto Todoroki

Toya Left A Big Impression On Shoto Todoroki

It is clear for the fans to see that Toya Todoroki’s death had a profound effect on Shoto. Fans know that Shoto himself started taking a positive step once he realized that his brother was on borrowed time. The two started talking about their hobbies, and upon getting a positive response from Toya, pertaining to his favorite food being Soba, Shoto seemingly continued speaking to him every now and then. The fact that he still goes to his shrine to pay his tribute just goes to show what a kind brother he truly is.

Shoto enrolling in the Ishikawa class just goes to show that he still thinks of his brother and that he carries him in his heart. Learning this is especially important to him because this is a hobby that he shares with his brother. Toya might be gone, but his memory remains with Shoto. To many fans, Shoto saying that he loves eating food might seem rather bizarre or out of place, but looking at it from a different perspective adds a whole new layer to his newfound love for trying different foods. At the end of the day, Toya Todoroki lived a very tragic life from start to finish. But, he, too, was someone who aspired to have a great life and earn the praise and acknowledgment of everyone around him. Unfortunately, that didn’t come to him until much later in the story, and when it did, his life was cut short. Toya was led astray by none other than his own father and every crime that he committed is partially because of Endeavor as well. But, for what it’s worth, Shoto remembers the good side of Toya deep in his heart, and will always keep on paying his respects to him.
