Helldivers 2 players are big on conspiracy theories. Whether it’s the Illuminate finally arriving via a black hole or vehicles making their way to the game, the community has been trying to guess Arrowhead’s next move. However, the developer, who prefers roleplay as a form of communication, loves to keep the players guessing.

Players are just going in circles waiting for something worthwhile to happen.
Recently, some datamined files led the community to believe that the Illuminate are finally coming, but their blatant names made them suspect it’s a ruse. This has led to the community believing that Arrowhead actually likes messing with them. A new Major Order has players thinking Arrowhead is back at it, because it’s a mine.

While Helldivers 2 players have been starved for new content, the latest Major Order promises them a new stratagem. Unfortunately, it’s one of the community’s most hated armaments, a Gas Mine. At this point, it feels like the devs are a bit sadistic, as it’s well known that mines are everybody’s least favorite stratagem.
The Helldivers subreddit is currently filled with posts about how Arrowhead is almost trolling players at this point by introducing another type of mine. To top it off, gas isn’t exactly everyone’s favourite damage element either.
“I’m convinced they have mine stratagems ready to go specifically to troll when the community starts begging for new content,” said one comment. “It would be cool if [Arrowhead] added mines that don’t explode when being stepped on but can be manually detonated,” said another.
While the gas element is still okay, players are complaining that it could at least have had another delivery mechanism, like a tower, a cluster strike, or even an artillery barrage. But, the fact that it’s in the form of mines makes players think it’s a cruel joke of some kind by the developer.
“Their biggest weakness is teammates,” explained another comment. Either they step on them constantly (big red flashing lights don’t seem to be enough), or they immediately call down an airstrike exactly where your mines are, detonating them.”
On a more serious note, the community has been getting a bit tired of waiting for new content. Newer war bonds aren’t cutting it, and major events like the DSS have been a let down.
