Half-Life inspired survival game Abiotic Factor just got a new world

One of this year’s top new survival games just got bigger, as a substantial update for Abiotic Factor has just gone live. More excitingly, developer Deep Field Games is teasing that another large chunk of new content is just a couple of months away.

Since dropping in Early Access in May 2024, Abiotic Factor has swiftly attracted a fervent playerbase. Firmly in the ‘Overwhelming Positive’ category on Steam, the co-op game has managed to carve out a solid nook for itself in a crowded market.

Set in an underground scientific base, groups of players gather together to help seal a pretty horrendous breach. See, your experiments were of the inter-dimensional type, and now ghouls and goblins of all sorts are running rampant, and you need to track them down. The horror game fuses Ghostbusters and Half-Life to an extent, but with a cartoony edge.

To cap off a strong launch period, the third community update is now available. This includes a new portal world, beekeeping, various items overhauls and tweaks, and the much-requested crystalline armor.

So, plenty to get to grips with over the festive period. You have around three months to enjoy everything in this update before more gets piled on top, as it’s been teased the next big patch, titled Dark Energy, will arrive in February 2025.

That means there’s going to be a lot of terrifying creatures and other mysteries to solve. But if it ever feels too much, remember Abiotic Factor is a multiplayer game so you can call in some reinforcements.
