With nearly 100 playable units, Genshin Impact has some of the most interesting characters with unique designs and fighting styles. Each of them bring life to the game’s vast universe, keeping many fans engaged in the story in every update. But despite the sheer size of the character pool and the popularity of the game, Genshin Impact fans are constantly on the lookout for something new and fresh.
Comparisons between HoYoverse games are unavoidable, especially if avid players see innovative features that add value to the overall gameplay experience. Recently, fans expressed that Genshin Impact should also have 5-star versions of existing 4-star units, just like in Honkai: Star Rail. While this feature is currently unique to Honkai: Star Rail, it’s definitely become popular enough that the HoYoverse community wants other games to adopt it.

Based on early sneak peeks, Genshin Impact’s next update is already shaping up to be a major milestone, starting the new year strong.
Honkai: Star Rail’s 5-Star Feature Could Add Variety to Genshin Impact’s Characters
Back in Version 1.3, Honkai; Star Rail first introduced Imbibitor Lunae, the 5-star form of Dan Heng, who has a completely different skillset and design. This was the first time that the game showcased the possibility of 5-starring other existing 4-star characters, which was an exciting prospect for avid players of the game. Fast-forward to now, Honkai: Star Rail is about to debut 5-star versions of Tingyun and Herta, and more might be on the way.
Even though Genshin Impact is considered one of the most popular and successful gacha games, Honkai: Star Rail reportedly outperforms it in terms of revenue. There could be a number of factors at play here, but many fans believe that it’s because Honkai: Star Rail has a more innovative approach to character design and quality-of-life updates. This includes maximizing its existing pool of characters and turning them into stronger units with different elements and Paths — not just reserving this feature for the main protagonist.

As mentioned, Genshin Impact has nearly 100 characters, and many of them, particularly 4-stars, have likely fallen off players’ radars due to power creeping. This is why many fans are hoping to get the same 5-star treatment for existing Genshin Impact characters, especially popular 4-star units like Kaeya and Ningguang. Some fans have proposed that Kaeya should get an upgraded form once the region of Khaenri’ah becomes available in the game. Likewise, they also believe Ningguang deserves a new form since she’s considered one of the strongest Genshin Impact characters despite being a 4-star. It’s also not farfetched for the game to create different versions of characters, since they did transform the Cloud Retainer NPC into a playable unit named Xianyun.

By “stealing” Honkai: Star Rail‘s beloved feature, Genshin Impact could have a chance at adding more variety to its characters, and avoid the fatigue that longtime players might feel with every new release. Granted, Genshin Impact has done a great job at introducing unique experiences to keep the game engaging, be it modes like Genius Invokation TCG or different ways to get around, like Mualani’s surfing ability. But it’s also understandable why avid fans also want characters to get their much-deserved power-up, especially if they’re playing important roles in the greater story.
The only caveat is that if Genshin Impact is indeed nearing the endgame, it might be too late to add the 5-star transformation to the game. At the same time, it could also be the perfect opportunity to add this feature to ensure that players can bring powerful characters to the final fight, as well as emphasize certain characters’ role in it, especially those who have been by Traveler’s side since the beginning.
