Dungeon Clawler merges roguelike deckbuilding with a claw machine in a surprisingly addictive take on the genre. The items added to your deck will be randomly shuffled and dropped into the claw machine each turn, requiring you to fish them out with the claw if you want to make use of them. The material an item is made from, and the size of the item, will have an impact on how they behave in the machine and how difficult they are to grab.
With all this to consider on top of the usual deckbuilder considerations, players of Dungeon Clawler will need to choose their items carefully at each opportunity. This guide will discuss some of the most consistently useful items in the game to help you work out what you’ll be looking out for as you play.

Dungeon Clawler: Best Starting Character
Dungeon Clawler offers players four characters to choose from when starting a new game, each with a different ability to help in a run.
Holy Shield
Easily the strongest defensive item in the game, this item will take all of your Block but reduce all incoming damage to 1 for the turn. If you grab this first, you can stack Block on top of it using other Shield items, allowing you to tank huge amounts of damage even with low amounts of Block.
Spikey Shield
The Spikey Shield mixes offense and defense to tremendous effect. It gives you 3 Block and 5 Spikes, meaning that any enemy attacking you will take 5 damage for their trouble. Spikes stacks seemingly infinitely and do not vanish between turns, allowing you to amass huge stacks of Spikes and let the enemy break against your walls, especially if you pair them with high quantities of Block and/or the Holy Shield.
Energy Drink
Keeping up the trend of mixing defense with offense, the Energy Drink allows you to convert all of your current Block into Strength at a 4:1 ratio (When upgraded, this becomes 2:1.) By using this in a Block-heavy strategy you can enhance your damage immensely. It’s best to use the Energy Drink on turns when your enemy isn’t attacking you or is dealing an amount of damage you’re okay with taking, as it’s a little tricky to make the most of the Energy Drink and also end the turn with a decent Block stack.
Gold Dagger
The Gold Dagger can potentially be the most damaging weapon in the game, especially when paired up with items like the Hand of Midas, the Magnet, and/or the Magnet Claw. The Gold Dagger deals 1 additional damage for every 10 coins you have, and can be upgraded at the blacksmith to make that ratio even more favourable for you. By collecting huge amounts of Gold, this dagger can become a one-hit kill against many enemies and even bosses.
Hand of Midas
The Hand of Midas is a utility item that has no effect when collected with the claw, but turns the fluff inside the machine (in an area around it) into coins. This makes it possible to rake in huge amounts of money very quickly, especially when paired with the Fluffy perk to add more fluff to the machine. Coins are also metal, meaning they can be attracted by Magnets and Magnet Claws, making this especially helpful for Scrappy. You can upgrade it at the blacksmith to increase the radius of its effect.
Spikey Stressball
The Spikey Stressball is a risk-reward item that quickly becomes much more reward than risk after a few uses. Collecting it will immediately give you 3 Strength (5 when upgraded) and drop 3 Stressball Spikes into the machine (5 when upgraded.) The Spikes, when collected, deal 1 damage to the nearest enemy and 5 damage to you. While this sounds bad at a first glance, it’s important to note that the damage dealt to enemies is boosted by your Strength, while the damage dealt to you is not. This means that you can easily tank the self-damage with Block (or reduce it to 1 with the Holy Shield) while dealing increasing amounts of damage to the enemy with each spike.
Whetstone
The Whetstone is a utility item that has no effect when collected with the claw, instead boosting the damage of all metal objects in a radius around it just by sitting in the machine. This can be further enhanced at the blacksmith and is particularly useful when you’re using lots of metal items.
Magnet
Keeping to the theme of utilizing metal to your advantage, the Magnet is another item that has no effect when collected. Instead, it draws all metal items in a radius around it towards itself. This means it can be used to pick up huge amounts of items at once if you have good aim with the claw.
Strength Potion
The Strength Potion is a powerful item that only shines when used alongside other Strength items. This is because it doubles your Strength whenever you grab it, which is only useful if you already have some Strength. When paired with items like the Spikey Stress Ball, Ring of Strength, or Amulet of Strength, however, it becomes incredibly powerful.
Ring of Strength & Amulet of Strength
These two are simple, raising your Strength by 2 and 5 respectively when collected. Strength is added onto all damage you deal, so getting a high Strength value during a fight can make things a lot easier.
Heat Gun
The Heat Gun is an item that deals 3 damage to the last enemy when collected. It also, more importantly, shrinks 3 items in the machine. This makes it fantastic when you’re trying to maximize your item use on each turn.
Wooden Bracelet
The Wooden Bracelet gives you 1 Strength and 10 Armor whenever you pick it up, making it a simple and reliable way of bolstering your defensive and offensive capabilities simultaneously.
