Though it’s not ideal for every situation, doubly so with enemies who can attack a whole column, it’s crucial if you prefer to run a pure aerology caster or even an aero/pyro hybrid for explosive power.

All the speed boost that the Flying Sword formation offers with none of the downsides! Your three middle party members will gain a decent speed boost, making them act faster in combat, while your two outer members, back left and back right, respectively, gain a ranged attack boost.

Be sure to plan carefully for AOE attacks. This formation doesn’t bring down any of your stats, but your three middle characters could be swept up inside powerful AOE attacks if you don’t prepare for them in advance. Still, it’s a much lower risk than other formations and can carry you a significant distance through your trials.

With how many formations you can find in the game, you’re bound to outgrow the Imperial line of formations quickly. This game is all about experimentation, after all. You’d only be hurting your progress by sticking to the same formations for however long it takes.

Yet, the Imperial Arrow remains the last bastion of strength in the Imperial line of formations. The team makes up for the ‘feather’ part of the arrow in the rear while the leader takes point, giving the entire team a speed boost. Your only possible vulnerability is your rear guard taking column damage, but it’s a small price to pay for imperial speed.

Mu Rampart

If you were to walk out onto the battlefield and see five imposing bodies standing at the ready, it would be hard not to feel intimidated. Mu Rampart is power, as your whole retinue gains a significant physical and magical defense. There is no discrepancy between the King and the party; you all stand firm as one.

With that stalwart power, you take a hit in speed, meaning enemies will preemptively attack when determining the attack order. A small price to pay for superior strength, but if you find yourself locked in a battle of attrition, you’ll more than likely come out victorious in the end due to how beefed up you are.

Divine Wall

Don’t let the ‘easier to target’ moniker that the front line wears in this formation. Divine Wall works hard to minimize damage to all party members but in different ways. The front is what you’d expect: physical and magical defense. It doesn’t mitigate as much damage as the Mu Rampart foundation, but the rear line is where this formation truly shines.

The rear guard gets a bonus in ranged attack, but they also get covered in Divine Mist, rendering them nearly invincible to any incoming attack, so long as the front row remains standing. Its only drawback? You can’t get it earlier.
