GamingonPhone Awards 2024 Indie Game Of The Year Winner

The results of the GamingonPhone Awards 2024 are out as Balatro emerges the winner of ‘Indie Mobile Game Of The Year’. At the virtual ceremony held on December 6, 2024, the card game from developer LocalThunk and publisher Playstack beat seven other nominees to earn this award.

The GamingonPhone Awards is an annual award show hosted by GamingonPhone which serves as a testament to the collective passion and dedication exhibited by the entire industry to captivate and entertain audiences. A total of 30 categories, part of both the B2C and B2B sides, were awarded. For the first time this year, a Jury Panel was part of the selection process in the Awards Ceremony.

Balatro’s fast-paced deck-building gameplay was an instant hit

Balatro is a deck-building roguelike that breaks away from traditional game rules. You can find powerful jokers and create exciting, game-changing combos in this pixel-art adventure. Released in February 2024 for PC, Nintendo Switch, and consoles, the game quickly became a hit, selling over a million copies within days and setting a new record.

The award celebrates the most innovative and impactful indie mobile game which had a release this year that captivated players. Balatro ticked all the boxes: be it the engaging gameplay, in-depth mechanics, and presentation.

As mentioned earlier, Balatro edged out seven other nominees who were top games in their own right. Slash Quest, Guncho, BROK the InvestiGator, Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance, Boxes: Lost Fragments, Auto Priates: Captains Cup, and Halls of Torment: Premium were the competitors for the Indie Mobile Game Of The Year at the GamingonPhone Awards 2024.
