Who Are The YouTubers in the Minecraft Movie?

Despite being one of the most successful video games ever made, a proper film or TV show adaptation of Minecraft has yet to be released. Attempts to bring the hit sandbox game to the big screen, however, have been ongoing for more than a decade. In 2014, the game’s developer, Mojang Studios, announced that it was teaming up with Warner Bros. Pictures to make a big-budget Minecraft movie. At the time, it was said that the film would be completed by 2018, but as the years went by, it was hit by delay after delay. Several directors and actors were once planned to be involved with the Minecraft movie, including industry veterans like Steve Carell, Shawn Levy, and Rob McElhenney. However, they all left the project.

For a while, it seemed like all hope was lost for the Minecraft movie, but fortunately, Warner Bros. and Mojang didn’t give up. After years of anticipation, the first trailer for the Minecraft movie was finally revealed in September 2024. The film, which is simply titled A Minecraft Movie, is directed by Napoleon Dynamite writer Jared Hess and has a star-studded cast behind it. Jack Black plays the role of Steve, the default player character that’s closely associated with the Minecraft brand. Meanwhile, Jason Momoa plays a new character called Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison. In addition, A Minecraft Movie features cameos from several famous YouTubers, including DanTDM, Aphmau, Valkyrae, LDShadowLady, and Mumbo Jumbo.

A Minecraft Movie Will Have a Lot of Famous Actors and YouTubers

DanTDM (a.k.a. Daniel Robert Middleston)

Perhaps the one YouTuber that most Minecraft fans will immediately recognize is DanTDM. Daniel Robert Middleton, who goes by the name DanTDM, is one of the most influential YouTubers in the gaming world. He started his main YouTube channel in 2012, which, over the years, amassed a whopping 29.1 million subscribers. Middleton primarily does Minecraft Let’s Play videos, but he occasionally covers other video game franchises as well, like Five Nights at Freddy’s and Pokemon. Although Middleton used to upload videos on his DanTDM YouTube channel on a near-daily basis, he’s released content more infrequently in recent times.

DanTDM’s appearance in A Minecraft Movie will not be the first time he makes a cameo in an official Minecraft product. In 2016, the popular content creator had a small appearance in the sixth episode of Minecraft: Story Mode, in which he played as himself. Other Minecraft YouTubers had cameos in the game alongside him, including LDShadowLady, Stampy Cat, CaptainSparklez, Stacy Plays, and Anthony (a.k.a. Bigbst4tz2).

DanTDM wrote a
Minecraft
-themed graphic novel called
Treyaurus and the Enchanted Crystal
in 2016.

Aphmau (a.k.a. Jessica Bravura)

Like DanTDM, Aphmau is a popular Minecraft YouTuber who has a channel with over 20 million subscribers. Aphmau’s real name is Jessica Bravura, and she’s been on YouTube since 2012. Bravura is best known for pioneering the Minecraft role-playing video genre. Unlike traditional Let’s Plays, most of her content is usually scripted and sometimes features an overarching story of some kind.

Bravura currently has four YouTube channels: Aphmau (22.3 million subscribers), Aphmau Shuki (2.96 million subscribers), MyStreet – One Last Time (1.48 million subscribers), and Jessica Bravura (1.34 million subscribers). Aphmau is, of course, her main channel, while Aphmau Shuki is her Roblox-focused channel. MyStreet – One Last Time, meanwhile, features Minecraft-style animations and music videos. The Jessica Bravura YouTube channel, on the other hand, is entirely centered around vlogs, but it’s been inactive for several years.

Bravura’s main YouTube channel is named after the
Final Fantasy 11
character of the same name, Aphmau.

Several Content Creators Are Going to Have Cameos in the Minecraft Movie

Mumbo Jumbo (a.k.a. Oliver “Oli” Brotherhood)

Oliver Brotherhood, better known by his online alias Mumbo Jumbo, is a British content creator who primarily makes Minecraft videos on YouTube. He first rose to fame in 2012 by making tutorials for Mojang’s hit sandbox game, most of which were about redstone and how to use it. Later on, Brotherhood gained notoriety for creating and showcasing elaborate redstone contraptions in Minecraft. He also joined the private, invite-only server Hermitcraft in 2013 and started to make Minecraft SMP (Survival Multiplayer) videos on a regular basis.

Mumbo Jumbo currently has 9.48 million subscribers on YouTube. The red-and-white mustachioed icon of the channel has become iconic across the internet, and is stamped across the thumbnails of most of Brotherhood’s videos.

In addition to making
Minecraft
-related content, Brotherhood also creates short films and documentaries, which he uploads on his Mumbo YouTube channel. At the time of writing, more than 650K people are subscribed to Mumbo.

LDShadowLady (a.k.a. Elizabeth “Lizzie”)

One of the other popular Minecraft YouTubers out there is Elizabeth “Lizzie,” who’s best known as LDShadowLady. Elizabeth is a British content creator with a storied history on the internet. She first started making YouTube videos in 2012, around the same time as Mumbo Jumbo, Aphmau, and DanTDM. Back then, she was part of an all-female gaming group called the Pixel Pact, which included fellow content creators like Yammy Xox, Vengelfe, and NyanStrike. Elizabeth initially posted brief Call of Duty clips on her channel, but shortly after she began her YouTube career, she started uploading Minecraft Let’s Plays. Throughout the years, Elizabeth created several single-player Minecraft series and SMPs, such as Shadowcraft and X Life.

Elizabeth is married to fellow British YouTuber SmallishBeans (a.k.a. Joel), who also makes Minecraft videos. Her main YouTube channel currently has 7.26 million subscribers, while her secondary vlogging channel (More LDShadowLady) has 741k subscribers.

In addition to vlogs, the More LDShadowLady YouTube channel also features animated
Minecraft
music videos.

Valkyrae (a.k.a. Rachell Marie Hofstetter)

Rachell Marie Hofstetter, who goes by the nickname Valkyrae, is one of the most popular female content creators on both YouTube and Twitch. Unlike the other individuals on this list, though, Hofstetter is not a Minecraft YouTuber. Although she does dabble in Minecraft occasionally, she primarily plays other video games, like Among Us, Fortnite, and Grand Theft Auto 5. Many of her uploads on YouTube are also not gaming-related; a large number of them are either vlogs or challenge videos. Nonetheless, Hofstetter is going to have a cameo of some kind in the Minecraft movie.

Valkyrae has 4.08 million subscribers on YouTube and 1.1 million followers on Twitch.
