After Strohl’s awakening in Metaphor: ReFantazio; players will also be able to awaken the same power in Grius and give him an Archetype. Unlike Strohl and the protagonist, Grius doesn’t have a set Archetype, and instead, you can choose one of three options.
At this point in the game, you’ll only have access to three Archetypes, Warrior, Seeker, and Mage. There is a fairly difficult boss at the end of the cave depending on the difficulty you’re playing on, with another optional one waiting right after the first. Here is the best Archetype to give Grius.

Metaphor: ReFantazio – Which Royal Virtue Should You Focus On First
There are five Royal Virtues in Metaphor: ReFantazio; but which is the most important one to focus on first?
The cave where Grius officially joins the party and gets an Archetype has one mandatory boss and one optional boss. Both of these bosses rely heavily on fire-based skills, making the best Archetype for Grius the Warrior. Grius’ highest stat is also strength, making him a solid damage dealer for this dungeon, no matter what Archetypes you choose to use on the Protagonist and Strohl.
It’s highly recommended for the first upcoming boss fight that you have two Warriors and a Mage, with Strohl ideally being the Mage. The Warrior Archetype has two skills should should work towards in this first dungeon to help make both boss fights much easier:
- Heat Up (Level 3) – A 20% boost in damage if you have two Warriors in your party.
- Slicer (Level 8) – Does the same damage as diagonal slice but hits multiple times.
Equipping Grius with the Warrior right away and only keeping the Warrior on him will usually lead to you getting Slicer before facing the first boss as long as you take your time through the dungeon and not just run straight through. Depending on the difficulty you choose, the Homo Fulquilo, the first main boss, may pose quite a challenge unless you’re prepared with decently leveled Archetypes.

Metaphor: ReFantazio – 5 Best Magic Archetype Lineages
Magic is one of the main damage-dealing stats in Metaphor: ReFantazio; here are the best lineages to level up that scale best off magic.
With Grius using the Warrior, it’s recommended that the Protagonist also use the Warrior if you’re going for a strength build as his damage will already outclass Strohl’s. It can also be helpful to switch between the Mage and Warrior as overworld kills with the Mage will restore MP and have you fully prepared to fight the boss at the end of the cave. Summoning any of these starting Archetypes will only cost 500 MAG, which will be easy to come by from the monsters in this starting cave.
