The Veilguard Players Preferred Punching The First Warden

Dragon Age: The Veilguard gave players plenty of hard choices to make. Choosing between saving Minrathous or Treviso was perhaps the biggest of these choices, the consequences didn’t seem too dire in the end. While that’s been a constant complaint about the game, there were some choices that were actually pretty hard to make.

Brandon Sanderson’s epic series diverges so far from familiar tropes that it’s tough going back to such traditional fantasy.

As part of the Dragon Age Day celebrations, BioWarerevealed some stats of player decisions in The Veilguard. They revealed which path most players chose, which companions they preferred and whether or not they stopped to pet Assan. It’s always fun to see the overall choices made by the community, for the smaller decisions too.

The Punching Paragon

Perhaps as a nod to the Mass Effect series, one of the choices faced by players was to either reason with or punch the First Warden during the siege of Weisshaupt. The Grey Wardens were under attack by overwhelming forces, but the First Warden decided to go full Denethor and send his troops out to die.

According to BioWare, a resounding 64 percent of players decided to punch him and take control of the situation rather than waste time on reasoning with him. I have to say that BioWare made it pretty hard to not punch him, right from his silly tantrums to his stupid face.

BioWare is notorious for giving players the option to punch annoying NPCs. Even on a Paragon playthrough, Mass Effect players found it hard to restrain themselves from punching sensationalist reporter Khalisah al-Jilani after her agenda-spouting ramblings. Perhaps it’s immature, but it’s undoubtedly satisfying.

While the First Warden wasn’t as infuriating as al-Jilani, many players didn’t want to waste time on dealing with him, especially with Ghilan’nain at the gates. The 36 percent that chose to do so probably got more Grey Wardens killed.

Other stats revealed that players were split between saving either of the two cities, Emmrich was chosen to accompany Rook the most, and most players had faith in Taash holding back the counterattack, as well as dealing with the Juggernaut at the gate.

Most importantly, however, only 50 percent of you monsters pet Assan, and merely 31 percent played rock-paper-scissors with Manfred.
