The Strongest Aspect Of Each Admiral, Explained

The Strongest Aspect Of Each Admiral, Explained

Key Takeaways

  • Admirals in One Piece are the Navy’s Ultimate Power, with strong Haki and Devil Fruit abilities.
  • Akainu’s unmatched power, Aokiji’s tactical mind, and Kizaru’s blinding speed stand out.
  • Fujitora’s humanity makes him an easy ally and Ryokugyu’s loyalty make him a valuable asset to the World Government.

The Admirals are described as the ‘Ultimate Power’ of the Navy, making them some of One Piece’s most important figures. Having the most authority in the Navy is just one of the reasons why the Admirals are such powerful characters, as they have some of the strongest Haki and Devil Fruit powers in the entire setting, with many fans calling them the World Government’s answer to the Emperors of the Sea.

Moreover, throughout the runtime of One Piece, each Admiral has proven to be an incredibly valuable asset to the World Government, either through their physical might or for any other reason. Their power and authority are absolute, so, let’s take a look at the strongest aspect of each Navy Admiral and see why it makes them such a valuable asset to the World Government’s plans.

One Piece: These Potential Devil Fruits Would Change The Game

Of all the Devil Fruits that have been speculated to be in the series, there are a few whose inclusion would definitely change everything!

Akainu – The Red Dog

Strongest Aspect: Unmatched Power

First Appearance

One Piece, Chapter 397, “In Hopes of Reaching the Future”

Story Arc

Enies Lobby

One can’t make it to the position of an Admiral if they aren’t leagues stronger than their contemporaries. However, even among the ranks of the Admirals, Akainu is especially powerful as he was able to defeat Aokiji in order to become the new Fleet Admiral of the Navy. It helps that Akainu has perhaps the strongest sense of justice and is fiercely loyal to the Navy, mostly due to the contempt he holds for pirates, which is shown by his willingness to do anything to destroy all threats to the foundation of the World Government.

The world may hate me, but I will uphold justice, even if I must bear the weight of that hatred alone!

Akainu is said to have one of, if not the, most offensively powerful Devil Fruits in the entire world, so his strength due to this and his mastery over Haki easily make him one of the greatest characters in One Piece. One could argue that his loyalty is perhaps his strongest asset, but he has been shown to talk back to the likes of the 5 Elders when he doesn’t agree with their tactics. This makes his unmatched power his strongest trait.

Aokiji – The Blue Pheasant

Strongest Aspect: Tactical Mind

First Appearance

One Piece, Chapter 303, “Rich Pirates”

Story Arc

Long Ring Long Land

Just like Akainu, Aokiji is exceptionally powerful and far stronger than most characters in the entire series. However, his strongest aspect has more to do with his calm and tactical mind, which he uses to assess a situation before he tackles it. His sense of justice is also very strong but has a far more lenient implementation, which was one of the main reasons why he fought against Akainu for the position of Fleet Admiral.

The thing called ‘justice’ changes its shape, depending on where you stand.

Although he lost the battle, he was able to cause permanent injuries to someone whose offensive capabilities were far greater than his own. In any situation, Aokiji is always able to use his head calmly to defeat his opponents, such as how he froze the entire battlefield to the Marines’ advantage during Marineford or how he was able to subdue the entire Blackbeard Pirates crew in an instant. The ability to remain calm in any situation is what separates Aokiji from the others.

Kizaru – The Yellow Monkey

Strongest Aspect: Blinding Speed

First Appearance

One Piece, Chapter 504, “Pirate Front Line on the Move”

Story Arc

Sabaody

Kizaru ate the Pika Pika no Mi, which is a Logia Type that gives him the ability to manipulate and become light itself. Due to the properties of the element, Kizaru can move at the speed of light, making him the fastest character in the entire One Piece world, which also goes into making him one of the strongest. Not only does Kizaru move this fast, but he can also shoot rapid projectiles of light that can shred through whatever they touch.

Guts alone are certainly not going to save you here.

Just like Akainu, Kizaru is incredibly loyal to the World Government, as was seen in his presence on Egghead, where he killed Dr. Vegapunk because he was ordered to. However, he hated doing it and regretted it immediately after, as it was strongly hinted that it was Kizaru who gave Luffy the extra food to give him enough energy to transform into Gear 5 again, making him quite loyal but not beyond his own whims and wishes.

Fujitora – The Purple Tiger

Strongest Aspect: Humanity

First Appearance

One Piece, Episode 701, “Adventure in the Land of Love, Passion, and Toys”

Story Arc

Dressrosa

The only Admiral with a Paramecia Type Devil Fruit, Fujitora is one of the later conscripts into the ranks of the Marines. This character was never a member of the Marines before he joined as an Admiral, so the views he held on justice were quite different to most of his contemporaries as he believed that not all the actions perpetrated by the World Government were correct and that there were flaws in the system that needed to be fixed.

If we lose credibility just by admitting fault, we didn’t have any in the first place!

This makes him the most humane of the Admirals; someone who values life above all else and despises violence. He acknowledges that a system of laws and values must be upheld, but the mere act of being a pirate does not disqualify someone from being a good person, which was proven right with Luffy. While this may not be as direct in a combat situation as the others, it shows that Fujitora will always do what is right and will likely even become an ally to the Straw Hats in the Final Saga.

Ryokugyu – The Green Bull

Strongest Aspect: Unwavering Loyalty

First Appearance

One Piece, Chapter 905, “A Beautiful World”

Story Arc

Reverie

Just like Fujitora, Ryokugyu wasn’t always a Marine, but was drafted upon the resignation of Aokiji and the promotion of Akainu, which left 2 vacant positions for the rank of Admiral. The reason why he is one of the most valuable assets to the World Government is due to his unwavering loyalty to their regime, as he is also a firm believer in the supremacy of the Celestial Dragons, so he works to enforce it as best as he can.

You have no human rights! Don’t blame me for it! It’s how the world works!

Just like Akainu, Ryokugyu believes in absolute justice and the punishment of anyone who goes against the rules set by the World Government, no matter what. However, unlike the Fleet Admiral, Ryokugyu would never speak against his orders since he seems to believe in the racist and elitist classism infecting the world of One Piece. This, coupled with his incredible powers, is why he is such a deadly foe for the heroes to eventually face.

One Piece can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
