Stardew Valley Player Gets Bizarre Message from Haley

Stardew Valley Player Gets Bizarre Message from Haley

Key Takeaways

  • A Stardew Valley player received a strange message from Haley about their relationship with Alex.
  • The reason for the unusual dialogue is likely due to the Canon-Friendly Dialogue Expansion mod, which causes jealous dialogue between villagers.

A Stardew Valley player gets a passive-aggressive message from Haley after marrying Alex in their latest playthrough. With over 35 million copies sold, it’s no secret that Stardew Valley is one of the biggest indie success stories of all time. Made by Eric Barone, Stardew Valley is a labor of love and a homage to classics such as Harvest Moon. Despite being over eight years old, players still enjoy their time in Pelican Town, as the game has received frequent updates over the years.

The most recent Stardew Valley patch added new interactions with spouses outside dialogue, a way to obtain lost items, and even the ability to place legendary fishes inside a fishpond. While the official updates have greatly expanded on the base game, Stardew Valley has a strong modding community as well. From graphical overhauls to new NPCs, Stardew Valley allows players to customize their experience in whichever way suits them best.

A fan who goes by Chicken-go-bawk shared a rather bizarre moment that her farmer shared with Haley, who happens to be one of the main villagers in Stardew Valley. During the encounter, Haley makes a blunt comment to the farmer that Alex isn’t interested in her, despite the farmer marrying Alex and having two kids with him. Given that Haley is paired off with Alex by default, this line of dialogue is likely meant to imply that Haley is jealous or bitter that Alex is romantically interested in the farmer. Some Stardew Valley players were wondering if the line came from a mod, and it didn’t take long for Chicken-go-bawk to confirm it.

Stardew Valley Mod Expands NPC Interactions

The culprit behind Haley’s bizarre encounter is most likely Canon-Friendly Dialogue Expansion, which adds over four thousand lines of dialogue across all NPCs in Stardew Valley. In fact, Haley isn’t the only romanceable villager who can get jealous, as Alex makes a similar comment if the farmer marries Haley. The mod even expands on dialogue seen during Pelican Town’s many festivals, as the base game only has unique lines for the first two years.

While Stardew Valley has enjoyed extensive post-launch support from Eric Barone, the developer has confirmed that he is back working on the Haunted Chocolatier, which is both a spiritual successor to Stardew Valley and allegedly a take on Rune Factory as well. No release date is listed for the Haunted Chocolatier as yet, and given Barone’s comment that he probably announced the project too early, Stardew Valley fans shouldn’t expect it to arrive any time soon.
