Pokemon TCG Pocket Player Ends Battle Against Mewtwo Ex With Magikarp

Pokemon TCG Pocket Player Ends Battle Against Mewtwo Ex With Magikarp

Key Takeaways

  • Magikarp surprisingly triumphs against Mewtwo ex in a PTCG match.
  • SekaiKofu strategically uses Sabrina to secure the unexpected victory.
  • Meta battles in PTCG evolve with players creatively designing their own formats.

Battles in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket are funny things. In an ever-evolving meta, players are creating their own battle formats. They’re also winning battles without knocking a Pokemon out, surviving using a single Caterpie, flipping tons of heads using Lickitung, and smashing players for the game’s maximum possible damage.

This next achievement, though, may just trump all that came before it, with a player winning a match that saw Magikarp face up against Mewtwo ex.

Magikarp And Sabrina Prove To Be The Ultimate Duo

With both players having two points already on the board, Reddit user SekaiKofu was staring defeat in the face as their single 30 HP Magikarp was head-to-head with a meta-defining Crown Rare version of Mewtwo ex. A loss looked inevitable, but somehow, with the help of a Supporter card, they managed to turn things around.

Magikarp is historically known as the weakest Pokemon in the entire series, and its card reflects that. With a measly 30 HP and a damage output of 10, the only use for the card is to evolve it to Gyarados, but when that wasn’t an option, SekaiKofu had to pull a fast one.

Thankfully, SekaiKofu’s opponent had a slight chink in their armor waiting to be exploited. On their bench was a Gardevoir with 10 HP remaining that had retreated from battle. In SekaiKofu’s hand was a Sabrina. By using the Sabrina and hitting the Gardevoir with Magikarp’s Splash, the game was over, and in a strange twist of fate, Magikarp was the decisive Pokemon.

While clearly a special moment, it’s certainly not recommended heading into battle hoping to rack up wins with a Magikarp-focused deck. Instead, plenty of research has been done to suggest which decks you should use. One player analyzed almost 30,000 matches to help figure out the meta, and later, as things evolved, found that Moltres ex, Charizard ex, and Arcanine ex could be the way to go. Whatever happens, though, just be sure to thank your opponent.
