Of course, One Piece will still take some more time to conclude, but fans are wondering what his plans are going to be following the conclusion of the series. The truth is that fans will not have to wonder about that, because Oda has already provided the answers to them.

Oda’s Current Focus Is The Final Saga

  • Oda’s mind is completely on the Final Saga
  • Oda plans to draw a war bigger than Marineford

The first thing that fans need to keep in mind is that, as things stand, Oda is not actively thinking about what he’s going to do after One Piece is over. His first and foremost focus is properly concluding One Piece. Oda has spent the vast majority of his life working on One Piece. It is his magnum opus and, in many ways, his love child. Oda knows that One Piece will require him to be at his best if it is to conclude successfully and it can be said that he is doing everything he can to wrap this series up and give it an ending that it deserves.

In fact, Oda is ready to die for One Piece, and at one point, when Oda started working with a new editor, specifically editor Kawashima, in their very first meeting, he told him to die for One Piece. According to the editor, Oda is rarely determined to die for One Piece and the fact that his health has suffered so much because of this series is simply proof of that.

Regardless of how much his health suffers, Oda is doing his best to give fans exciting One Piece content each passing week. As things stand, Oda has already started the Elbaf arc, and promised fans that an incredibly exciting story is now going to unfold in front of them. Fans will get to see many exciting battles spanning all over the Grand Line, as the Straw Hat Pirates are not going to be the only focus in this particular segment of the story. Oda mentioned this himself when he asked fans to sit tight and hold on for a little longer before One Piece finally concludes.

When I was a kid, I thought to myself: man I would love to draw a manga with the most hyped final stage! I wonder if I’m up to it! Now, we have only a tiny bit of Wano arc left, the preparations are almost done. Took me 25 years lol. That said, it’s fine if you start reading from this point on, Because from this point on…it’ll be…(the) One Piece!! The mysteries of this world, I’ll be drawing all of them! It’ll be super interesting! Fasten your seatbelt! And please stay with me for a bit longer! – Oda

In a few years’ time, One Piece will officially conclude and when that happens, fans can only hope that Oda will be satisfied with what he delivered. After putting decades into the story, Oda certainly deserves incredible respect and praise from all the fans all over the world and then, fans can finally start thinking about what is next.

Of course, it is no surprise for the fans to be wondering about what happens once One Piece concludes. Naturally, the series being in its Final Saga, after having been a part of the fans’ lives, makes them wonder what comes next. The fact is that Oda wants to take a big rest after the story comes to an end. As things stand, Oda spends most of his time alone working in his studio. He doesn’t get much time to spend with his family every day, and for the vast majority of his life, Oda has not been able to get as involved with his family as he would like to. At the same time, Oda has also not been able to take care of his health. He sleeps only three hours a day, and sometimes goes days without even eating. All this to prevent falling asleep and being able to deliver as much content as possible, all the while maintaining top-notch quality.

As such, it is no surprise for the fans to know that the first thing Oda wants to focus on following the conclusion of One Piece is himself and his family. Oda wants to spend quality time with his wife and kids and, at the same time, start taking care of his own health too. More than that, Oda wants to take his wife on a round-the-world trip. When Oda got married in 2004, he promised his wife that he would finish One Piece in 10 years, and then the two would go on a round-the-world trip. Unfortunately, his plans did not come to fruition, because One Piece took much longer than just 10 years. It’s been 20 years since Oda’s plans were formulated. He still has not finished One Piece, and it is likely going to be 6 to 7 years before the series wraps up. As such, Oda will likely go on a round-the-world trip following the conclusion of the series with his wife and his kids.

Following a few years of break, fans can then potentially see Oda wondering about what to do next as a mangaka, and even then, the plans are likely not going to be major, because Oda is quite old already.

Is There Any Plan For A Future Story From Oda?

Oda Wants To Do Some Side Stories After One Piece

There certainly are plans for a future story from Oda. He has previously stated that he would love to do side stories on characters such as Dragon or even Garp. These are two characters that he specifically highlighted. As such, there is potential for him to do one-shots and spin-offs after One Piece concludes. This will likely not happen immediately after One Piece ends. Oda will likely take a few year’s break and spend as much time with this family as possible. Then, occasionally, Oda might drop one shots here and there, or do a mini series with a few chapters. Even then, nothing is confirmed and One Piece might not get any additional content at all. But, at the very least, Oda has talked about it in the past, and there certainly is a possibility for it to happen.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1133, is set to be December 8, 2024.
