The Nintendo Switch 2 has been on a lot of gamers’ minds as of late, as leaks and rumors keep circulating about the long-awaited console. One of the latest leaks to come out about the Switch 2 has given some possible insight into the console’s dimensions, suggesting a much bigger size than the original Switch.
Noticed by Reddit user ertaboy356 on 1688.com, an e-commerce site run by the Alibaba Group, the online store has several listings for Switch 2 accessories. Of course, these listings are not official confirmation and could be fake, but if true, then gamers awaiting the Switch 2 may be in for a surprise in regard to dimensions. This also lines up with previous claims about the Switch 2’s screen size, which make these online listings even more compelling.

At the beginning of the year, tech analyst Hiroshi Hayase predicted that the Switch 2 could have an 8-inch screen, which points to these online store listings possibly being accurate. Hayase further claimed that the Switch 2 could forego an OLED screen for an LCD display. Nintendo has been quite secretive about its next console. While the company has confirmed backward compatibility, there has yet to be any official release date or further specs confirmed.
Nintendo has confirmed that the company will announce its next console sometime before the end of March 2025.
The Switch 2’s Rumored Size Difference Compared to the Original Switch
Console |
Dimensions |
Switch (2017) |
239 x 102 x 13.9mm |
Switch 2 (Based on online listing) |
290 x 135 x 45mm |
It’s important to note one big difference between the two, and that’s thickness. The Switch 2’s alleged case listing states 45mm, which is a big departure from the original Switch’s 13.9mm, but there’s likely good reason for such a difference. It’s highly unlikely that the Switch 2 is actually 45mm thick. Instead, the potential case’s depth is more likely due to cushioning. Besides that, though, looking at these dimensions side by side indicates a big change. Leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been pouring out this year. Further leaks this week from Chinese video sharing platform BilliBilli also give more weight to speculation that the Switch 2 could have magnetic Joy-Cons. This, combined with a larger screen and size, implies some big departures from its predecessor.
The Wait For an Official Switch 2 Announcement Continues
There were hopes that the Switch 2 would be officially revealed sometime before the end of the year, but that seems unlikely. While the biggest bits of news have come from leakers, these various claims could still turn out to be mere rumors. Earlier this week, leaker Samus Hunter claimed that the Switch 2 may have a June release. Claims that are this major should always be met with skepticism, but only time will tell if the outpouring of rumors and leaks are proven to be true when Nintendo finally reveals the console.
Samus Hunter also claimed that the Switch 2’s price tag might be between $399.99 and $449.99.
As of now, there is no telling when Nintendo will reveal the Switch 2. There is still the possibility of it being announced before the end of the year, but that is likely wishful thinking. The original Switch has had an incredibly impressive run. As the Switch gets closer to its eight-year anniversary, the legacy of this Nintendo console will be hard to top. However, the anticipation and hype surrounding the Switch 2 could make it even more popular than its predecessor. The online listings for Switch 2 accessories may just be sellers trying to take advantage of the hype, but it will be exciting to see if the console is indeed larger.
