Is The Phantasmal Doll Worth Buying In Metaphor: ReFantazio

Metaphor: ReFantazio‘s most difficult bosses are just as much about what you know and how you prepare as it is about the stats and make-up of your party. Wearing the right accessories, bringing the right items, and having the right affinities will ultimately decide most fights, with there being a wide range of accessories to tackle any difficult boss.

Some accessories may seem a lot more straightforward than others, with some potentially leading to broken builds that trivialize even the strongest enemies. The Phantasmal Doll is an accessory that may seem confusing at first glance; here’s what it does and if you should buy it.

The Phantasmal Doll is purchased in Gloamhall in Sunshade Row in Grand Trad. This is a small store found in the streets just north of the tavern, and it is only open at night. While only open at night, players can fast-travel back here at any point in the game and buy a Phantasmal Doll along with other very powerful accessories that are unlocked by completing specific follower bonds.

The exact phrasing of this accessory can make its effects a little hard to understand at first glance. The in-game description reads:

This means that whoever has this accessory equipped is able to perform two actions back-to-back, using Press Turn Icons as usual. This is a bit of a double-edged sword, as it can let your strongest character act twice, but also take away an action from your final party member if you don’t strike any weaknesses. There is no way to toggle this on or off in combat, and the second action is a completely unique action, letting you double up on the same action or do two completely different things.

The best time to use this accessory is against an enemy or boss where you know the weakness and can hit it with the party member you’re giving this accessory to. It’s also important to use Skill Inheritance to give that party member a support or heal spell in case they need to perform a different role with that second action. This item can be very useful later in the game with the right end-game party, where you have damage dealers who should monopolize most fights after a few buffs and debuffs have been used.

Even if you strike a weakness, the second action will use up the half-sized icon next, meaning you can’t pass the second turn in any way.
