By meeting the requirements, you can unlock new areas to decorate in the village. We’ll show you how to reach these areas so you can utilize them for all your decorating desires. Here’s everything you need to know to access the floating islands above Dreamlight Valley, how to decorate them, and how to get even more space for your countless furniture items.

How To Reach The Floating Islands

Before you can unlock the floating islands, you’ll need to progress through the main story in Dreamlight Valley. When you get the ‘Islands In The Sky’ quest, you can talk to Merlin about the floating islands above the village.

Speak to the wizard to learn that he’s finally made a connection to those islands through the wells around Dreamlight Valley. You need only interact with the wells to access the islands. You can also fast travel there from your map.

Every well in the game, except the one in the Plaza, will allow you to fast travel to the floating islands.

Islands In The Sky Quest Walkthrough

Go through the wells to reach the floating Plaza Island. Once there, you can talk with Merlin about what to do with the new space. It has the same climate as the Plaza, but none of the obstacles or immovable objects.

You won’t have to worry about Night Thorns on the floating islands!

Talk to Merlin here to learn how to decorate the islands. He suggests moving Villager homes to the floating biomes to free up space. In fact, he wants you to move his home up into the sky for some much-needed privacy.

Open your furniture menu and start decorating. Relocate Merlin’s library through the house category, then add five or more additional decorations around the biome.

When you’re done, return to Merlin to show him your work. He can finally get some reading done without being disturbed, and the islands are all yours for the taking!

How To Unlock More Floating Island Biomes

While you unlock the Plaza Island for free, there are three more you can purchase. However, they will cost a good bit of Dreamlight magic. Below are the biomes you can purchase and for how much:

Island Name

Cost

Plaza Island

Free

Forest Island

15,000 Dreamlight

Sunlit Island

15,000 Dreamlight

Frosted Island

15,000 Dreamlight

Each of the biomes is roughly the size of the original, but without the regional attributes like cliff faces and bodies of water. You can decorate all you like here, as each region has a completely separate decoration limit.

Since the floating islands load in separately, they won’t cause lag in your game.

You can unlock the additional biomes whenever you’d like either through the wells around the village or by accessing the Floating Islands tab from the fast travel menu.
