Key Takeaways
- Foamstars is done with its seasonal content.
- The game will remain online even though its final season is ending on January 17.
- Foamstars will still receive some new content even if though its seasonal updates are over.
Square Enix has officially announced the end of new seasonal content for Foamstars, its PlayStation-exclusive four-on-four party shooter game that launched in February. While Foamstars will continue to receive content expansions that provide more for players to experience in the game, the final season is set to wrap up in mid-January 2025.
Despite its similarities to Nintendo’s much more successful Splatoon series, Foamstars has struggled to strike a chord with players, receiving only mixed to average reviews from fans and professional critics alike. Even though it was included as a free game for PS Plus subscribers in its debut month, roughly two months after its debut, Foamstars‘ player count dropped dramatically.

Foamstars’ Fate Shows Why a Free-to-Play Concord Return Would Be Skating on Thin Ice
With speculation swirling about Concord going free-to-play, Firewalk Studios may want to look at Foamstars as a cautionary tale.
Although it originally came with a $30 price tag, the game’s official Twitter page announced that Foamstars was going free-to-play on October 4. Now the game’s publisher is making additional adjustments by ending all new seasonal content. The final season, somewhat ironically titled Party Goes On!, is set for launch on December 13, 2024, and will conclude on January 17, 2025.
This won’t be the end of content releases for the game, however. Following the end of the Foamstars‘ season-based content, Square Enix and developer Toylogic are pivoting the game’s future in a number of ways. While there will be no more seasonal content added, players will be able to dive into any past seasonal content they may have missed, with the ability to switch between any season’s progressive rewards at any time. However, not all the seasonal content will instantly become free, as players will still have to pay a fee to access the game’s Premium Pass content.
There will also be changes to challenges, with Limited Time challenges being replaced with Daily and Event challenges, the latter of which will be updated each Saturday. Online versus matches in Foamstars will continue, though the competitions will be rebranded as the Foamstar Cup Legend League, with each cup being named after one of the game’s characters, rotating once every four weeks. Additionally, Extreme Party events will continue to be held every Saturday from 10 p.m. to 9:59 a.m. EST, rotating between Super Duel Party, Pitchside Homerun Party, One-Shot Chill Party, and Invisible Party.
