Still playing Dota 2 in 2024? Feeling old enough yet? If you are out of the loop, there’s a new trend in Dota 2 communities right now, where people write posts with only caption ‘Old enough?’
Here’s all you need to know about the ‘Old enough?’ trend:-
What are the ‘Old enough?’ posts on Dota 2 Reddit about?
The ‘Old enough?’ posts are simply Reddit users posting about what they think are their oldest memory of Dota 2. For instance, posts about Dota 1 wallpaper or gameplay, younger version of Gabe Newell, or even fat version of Storm Spirit. The joke being that the Dota 2 community occasionally attempts to gatekeep or shame newcomers for not remembering parts of Dota’s history.
For the most part, it’s a simple trend that takes Dota 2 players down the memory lane of Dota 2’s oldest experiences.
However, as with most trends, things do eventually went too far and irrelevant. For instance, when one Dota 2 Reddit post is about Aeon of Strife. For the uninitiated, Dota 2’s roots stem way back to a fan-made StarCraft custom map called, Aeon of Strife. Although Dota 2 and modern MOBAs are now vastly different from its predecessor, Aeon of Strife, this old game definitely inspired the basis of competitive genre that we all loved today.
How old is ‘old enough’ in Dota 2?
If anything, the trend reminded us how old Dota 2 players are, especially some of us old-school players who still play since Dota 1 days.
Dota 2 officially released back in 2013, just a little over a decade since then. Along the way, we have seen Dota 2 evolve into a MOBA with evermore complex mechanics yet still retains its roots as a Dota 1 successor.
Yet, it’s also heartbreaking to be reminded that us players also aged. Our reflexes aren’t as sharp anymore and most of us in our late 20s or 30s have different priorities like career and family! Yet, we still love Dota 2 after all these years… So yes, I reckon that we’re old enough in the end
