After much waiting, Delta Force has finally arrived on our doorsteps. The free Steam game offers two core modes, as developer Team Jade pitches its stand as a rival to both the grand-scale multiplayer of Battlefield and the tactical extraction FPS format of Escape From Tarkov. But a third pillar is on the way – a recreation of the campaign from 2003’s Delta Force Black Hawk Down, the fifth instalment of the original NovaLogic-developed series. It’s based on the 1993 conflict in Somalia that’s also seen in the Ridley Scott film of the same name, and we’ll be able to play it right at the top of 2025.
The Delta Force release date has arrived, and the free Steam game has launched with its twin multiplayer elements. The first, Warfare, features grand-scale 64-player battles packed with tanks, helicopters, and oodles of environmental destruction. The second, Operations, offers both PvE and PvPvE extraction shooter variants all about hunting for valuable loot and getting out alive. That already makes it one of the most comprehensive FPS games of the year, but there’s more to come.
Pitched as a full recreation of the Delta Force Black Hawk Down campaign, the mode will offer something for fans of single-player games. The 2003 original starts out with you as part of the Unified Task Force, taking place in key battles inspired by the conflict, including the Battle of Mogadishu itself. It then transitions to your role in the eponymous Delta Force, leading to an alternate-history conclusion. Its setting pulled the series from its previous, more open-ended mission structure into tense, urban close-quarters combat.
The Delta Force Black Hawk Down campaign remake arrives in January 2025. Developer Team Jade says the new story mode “faithfully reimagines both the revered 2001 Ridley Scott movie and the classic Delta Force series campaign, resulting in the definitive retelling of the infamous Mogadishu operation.” It’ll be playable both solo and in co-op.
