Black Ops 6’s Double XP Controversy Explained

Black Ops 6's Double XP Controversy Explained

The post-launch content of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is still going strong, with the recent launch of the game’s first season doing well to add a lot of variety to its core multiplayer. Some huge changes are also expected to come to the title’s Zombies mode over the coming days. The hotly anticipated Citadelle des Morts map launches on December 5 alongside a new perk, wonder weapon, weapon mod, and enemy type.

Since its release in October, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has done a fantastic job at maintaining its high level of popularity, achieving the best launch month for any Call of Duty project ever made in terms of player engagement. Treyarch recently introduced a wide-spanning double XP event for Black Ops 6 in celebration of the game’s success, although this exciting prospect has brought its fair share of controversy. Many players have reported that this double XP multiplier didn’t them the correct amount of experience, putting a dampener on what should otherwise have been a positive move of support from Treyarch towards the community.

Treyarch is Still Having Issues with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Double XP Events

Smartly-timed double XP events have been a fantastic way to keep players engaged with Call of Duty‘s core multiplayer experiences for years at this point, speeding up a given title’s leveling system and encouraging players to make the most out of what are usually weekend-long events. Black Ops 6‘s approach to leveling in particular has been a point of praise for many fans, since it smartly reverted back to the Black Ops sub-franchise’s classic Prestige Master system.

This gives an addictive and clear goal for dedicated players to work towards across the 1500-plus levels that Black Ops 6‘s multiplayer features, making double XP events huge points of celebration. An unusually long double XP event was recently added to Black Ops 6 alongside some exciting season one content, such as the Hit List event that brought things like new perks, weapons, and attachments to the game.

The most recent double XP event for Black Ops 6 began on November 27 and ended on December 2, giving players an explosive five days of what should have been massive XP gains, which offered a perfect compliment to new gameplay modes and playlists like Prop Hunt and the return of Stakeout 24/7. Treyarch implemented this as a direct thank you to the community over the franchise-topping launch month of Black Ops 6, although this recent bout of double XP once again brought a pre-existing issue to the forefront of player discussion.

Black Ops 6’s Most Recent Double XP Event Was Marred By the Previous One

Many players alleged that the amount of experience they were earning during the event was well under the supposed 2x multiplier, with a lot of these fans believing that their earned XP was below even 1.5x what they usually earn through standard gameplay. This widespread belief was only compounded by Treyarch’s previous admittance of errors like this, with Black Ops 6‘s first double XP event infamously having to be extended due to an error that gave players lower XP amounts than they should have earned.

This previous error saw Treyarch extend the game’s first double XP event, although this same courtesy was not extended to the five-day event. Treyarch seemingly believed that there were no issues with the recent XP multipliers. While it appears that Treyarch feels the recent event went smoothly, the amount of confusion caused by the lack of communication from the studio gave a bittersweet twist to what otherwise should have been a time of celebration for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
