December 5 is set to be a massive day for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, with fans finally getting access to the title’s hotly-anticipated Season One Reloaded update. This update marks the mid-point of the game’s first season, coming with a wide range of fresh content that has been spread across BO6‘s multiplayer and Zombies modes, as well as Warzone.
A huge part of the excitement surrounding Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s Season One Reloaded update can be attributed to the launch of a brand-new Zombies map on December 5. Citadelle des Morts will be the third map for Black Ops 6‘s Zombies, following the same round-based approach as Terminus and Liberty Falls while being set in an elaborate castle filled with Medieval weaponry and equipment. While it is clear that Citadelle des Morts offers some fascinating new gameplay opportunities for Black Ops 6 through features like the returning perk Vulture Aid and the new sword Wonder Weapons, the boss fight of the map will serve as the finale of the main quest and will be hugely important to Easter egg hunters. Unfortunately for Treyarch, it may end up suffering from success, as it will be tough for Citadelle Des Morts’ finale to surpass the already iconic boss fight of Terminus.

Citadelle Des Morts Boss Fight Already Has Strong Competition in Black Ops 6’s Zombies
While Liberty Falls offers a smaller-scale Zombies experience for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Terminus is the launch map that really goes out of its way to show off scale and range in its pathways to survival. This is evidenced in the multiple islands that players can travel to by boat around Terminus, or even in the expansive subterranean research facility that lies beneath the most prominent areas of the map.
A lot of fans prefer the more traditional layout of Liberty Falls due to its simplicity, yet the sheer size of Terminus is a testament to how Treyarch can maintain the classic secrets and claustrophobia of traditional Zombies gameplay while giving players huge areas to explore. The increased complexity of Terminus is even reflected in its major Easter egg quest, which involves a greater number of steps and more intricate progression when compared to the fairly simple main quest for Liberty Falls.
The end of Terminus’ major Easter egg leads to players being sent to a unique boss arena, having to then fight off against an enormous kraken-like monster who slams down on the area’s narrow catwalks with its many tentacles. The fight can take some time for even seasoned players to clear on a first attempt, with multiple damage phases and an instant-kill attack to look out for. Many players characterize the tense and memorable boss sequence for Terminus as one of the best boss battles that Call of Duty Zombies has seen in years, and Citadelle des Morts’ may struggle to match this more than any other aspect of Terminus.
Citadelle des Morts Can Use its Setting to Take its Boss Fight to the Next Level
Despite the huge expectations that Terminus’ boss fight set, it is true that Citadelle des Morts has the perfect setting to inspire a boss fight on a similar epic scale. Of course, Citadelle des Morts takes huge inspiration from Medieval imagery, as showcased in its elemental sword Wonder Weapons, and the Dark Aether could easily awaken ancient spirits of a similar theme to cap off the map’s own Easter egg quest.
To match and potentially exceed the Terminus boss fight, Citadelle des Morts would need an imposing major enemy such as a zombified dragon, with this potentially playing into other confirmed mechanics around the map like catapults to damage the boss mid-flight. With the Terminus Kraken utilizing water as a way to move quickly and conceal itself, a dragon boss for Citadelle des Morts could end up being the perfect counter. That said, Treyarch has already featured a Dragon boss before in Gorod Krovi, so to truly wow longtime players, it could need to do something new. Perhaps the map’s large statue awakening could do the trick, but it remains to be seen what Treyarch has in store for fans.
While the stage is clearly set for Citadelle des Morts to give players a memorable boss encounter, it still might be difficult for it to match the huge expectations set by Patient 13, as the scale of that battle perfectly matched its difficulty, with the fight’s music only enhancing the battle further.
