Nvidia’s next-generation GPU hardware, Rubin, is reportedly set to launch six months earlier than expected. With the new Nvidia GeForce Blackwell GPUs, including the RTX 5000 series, looking set to debut at CES 2025, it appears the next generation of graphics cards is being prepped for an earlier release than anticipated.
The company currently dominates the GPU industry. On the gaming front, Nvidia makes most of the best graphics cards available. Outside of play, Nvidia’s value has skyrocketed thanks to the artificial intelligence boom and its hardware being a key tool in powering it.
According to a report in Taiwan Economic Daily, Nvidia’s new Rubin chips were meant to be launched in 2026, but are now coming six months ahead of schedule in 2025. However, if Rubin were to be pushed up the schedule, it’s unlikely that any gaming GPUs would receive the upgrade until after the RTX 5000 series has its mid-step refresh.
Rubin’s bump-up would be specifically on an enterprise level. It looks as though Nvidia is racing to ensure it stays on top of the AI hardware pile. The company is currently dominating but needs to stay ahead of the game as other major players try to work on their own chips to power these massive AI projects.
It’s unclear when Nvidia Rubin will hit the consumer graphics card market, perhaps in the form of the GeForce RTX 6090, and we’re expecting the company’s gaming Blackwell GPUs to have a mid-cycle refresh with RTX 5000 Super variants. While this could potentially happen in 2026, if Nvidia really is ahead of schedule on its latest architecture, there’s a possibility it could leap ahead and launch the Rubin architecture for consumer and gaming cards instead.
With CES 2025 just around the corner, we’ll see what Nvidia has in store for the world in January. AMD, the competitor and maker of the best gaming CPU, will also be holding its own AMD CES show. AMD is expected to announce its latest gaming hardware and continue chasing that AI train, while Nvidia is widely expected to lift the lid on its new RTX 5090 flagship gaming GPU.
