Kaiu Shirai’s Other Projects
Kaiu Shirai released his first standalone project called The Location of Ashley-Gat in 2015. It was followed by another standalone piece called Poppy’s Wish. For this collaboration, he worked with Posuka Demizu. After this project, Kaiu Shirai started working on his draft called Neverland, which would later become The Promised Neverland. The manga started serializing in Weekly Shonen Jump in August 2016, and it continued till June 2020.
When Kaiu Shirai went to the editorial department of the Weekly Shonen Jump, they told him that it did not feel like a Jump manga. Eventually, he received the green light, but the editorial department asked him to wrap things up in 12 volumes or fewer. However, the challenges were far from over for the author. He needed to find an artist who could capture the manga’s essence. After being rejected by multiple artists, Kaiu Shirai teamed up with Posuka Demizu.
